Bush Picks New FEMA Head Without Knowing Previous One Resigned
He didn't even know about it:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/katrina_brown

The president ducked questions about Brown's resignation. "Maybe you know something I don't know. I've been working," the president said to reporters on an inspection tour of damage in Gulfport, Miss. Bush said he planned to talk with Brown's boss, Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff, from Air Force One on the flight back to Washington.

Yet he managed to pick a new one:

Bush picks Paulison as acting FEMA head
12 Sep 2005 20:56:42 GMT

Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, Sept 12 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush on Monday named David Paulison, a top official in the Homeland Security Department, to replace Michael Brown on an acting basis as head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Bush moved quickly to put Paulison in charge of FEMA after Brown resigned the position under fire for the slow federal response to Hurricane Katrina that killed hundreds and displace 1 million people.

28. No joke
A friend of mine does an internationally syndicated cartoon, and once he used a ferret in one of his 'toons. Faster than you would believe, he was trounced by ferret-lovers everywhere. I mean, his email locked up because so many people wrote to him to protest his mean treatment of ferrets - which make wonderful pets, these morons wanted him to know. Some threatened him, others just threatened his family.

So, you see why your subject line scared the hell out of me.

Hiya, kid. Yeah, I'm around, looking, watching, taking names and putting them in The Permanent Record. They'll stay in line, never fear.

:hi:

13. Good grief. What nonsense.
George would NEVER have attacked Saddam if he thought he had real weapons. George only plays when he thinks the deck is stacked in his favor. He's a gutless, cowardly, schoolyard bully. He only picks on the weak and cowers before the strong.

17. Answers Why the Trip to NO
That way, he could be AWOL when Cheney handled the dirty work and Brown "resigned". I'll bet that was all lined up before Bush left town...that way he didn't have to get his hands dirty by telling Brown either quit or out the door you go.

Once AWOL, always AWOL.

Congress: How much more evidence do you need to get up and do something about the fact that the executive branch is NOT working along the lines the Constitution laid out? For gods' sake, address the issue that people without Constitutional authority are the ones wielding power.

38. Suggests he may have stauched the bleeding a little
If he has any hope of getting that peg to swing for him, EVERYTHING HAS TO GO RIGHT. No more hurricanes, no more rise in gas prices, a MILD winter so the increases in fuel oil and natural gas are not felt, and those darn old insurgents in Iraq just need to hold hands, sing a song, and decide they really want to go home and eat kabab and rice.

"Darn it, Dick. Couldn't you at least let me know a little ahead of time when you're going to fire somebody and hire somebody else? I wind up looking like I'm not in charge. I mean I KNOW I'm not really in charge, but I hate it when it shows. Karl and Karen don't like it either."

Yo, Georgie, Brownie said he would fall on the sword but if you're going to make it look like it was his idea, you need to hold off just a few minutes until he gets to do his part before you do yours. I know you suck at waiting but really.

40. Unfortunately, the continued focus on Brown...
is a classic red herring, distracting our attention from the real causes of the debacle of New Orleans: Bush's venomous hostility toward working families and the poor (whether black or white); the Bush Administration policies derived from that hostility (cutbacks in levee-improvement and disaster-relief funds, destruction of the social safety net in general); the malicious racism within the administration that made the impact of Bush's hateful policies even worse; the vicious racism of Americans in general that now protects Bush by guaranteeing that the public -- simply because it doesn't give a damn -- will not hold Bush or his administration culpable for what happened.

As long as the focus is kept on Brown, we as a nation will not even begin the self-critical discussion we need to have -- especially about the fact (proven by the public's reaction) that American racism is as widespread and malevolent as ever.
