OK, I have an idea: Get rid of the Department of Homeland Security.
Seriously now.

Republicans hate it--or they should hate it--because it's a Big Government Bureaucracy. We hate it--or at least we should hate it--because it's Big Brother. And if you look at what the DHS has actually been responsible for since its creation, well, here's the highlights:

* Encouraging sales of duct tape and plastic.

* Color-coded alert system that made us the laughing stock of the civilized world.

* Bogus Orange Alert after bogus Orange Alert.

* A website jam-packed with unintentionally hilarious symbols and instructions about how to behave in a disaster.

* Diverting resources away from emergency management into...well, where have they gone? Are they paying for little color-coded stickers for everyone's cars? What the hell has DHS actually done for us with this money?

* Engulfing FEMA, digesting it, and leaving it too feeble to respond to an actual emergency.

* Giving Michael Chertoff a way to embarrass himself, his government, and the USA by making an unbelievable horse's ass of himself during a major national disaster.

So we need it why, exactly?

I merely ask,

The Plaid Adder

5. Gad, I'm with you on that, sad_one!
It makes me cringe everytime I hear it. "Homeland". Puke!

And with you too, Plaid Adder. We should get rid of it. It's too big, costs too much, and is absolutely useless (god,I almost sound link an old-line Republican!)

11. Yes. Hitler would have called it the Fatherland Security. That is
very, very similar.

2. Don't forget the $$$ bomb detection robot
for some tiny town in the Dakotas, where terrarists undoubtedly lurk behind every tractor shed.

7. I'd like to see a REAL Homeland Security Dept. run by Gary Hart that puts
in place REAL security measures while his fellow cabinet members work at dealing with the causes of terrorism and its funding by international financiers interested in promoting chaos and uncertainty while they line their bank accounts.

9. Perhaps the plan now is to put the WH 'under" Homeland Security.
So Homeland Security is now in charge of everything.

10. WTF is the bloody difference between
Homeland Security and National Security. Starting this agency instead of fixing Condi's former division of government was short sighted and wasteful and totally counterintuitive.
