"How Bush Blew It" that Bartlett had to burn a DVD of news coverage to prove to our read-nothing-in-chief that things were worse in New Orleans than he thought.

It is absolutely mind-boggling...

snips:

Bush can be cold and snappish in private, and aides sometimes cringe before the displeasure of the president of the United States

The bad news on this early morning, Tuesday, Aug. 30, some 24 hours after Hurricane Katrina had ripped through New Orleans, was that the president would have to cut short his five-week vacation by a couple of days and return to Washington.

several aides who did not wish to be quoted because it might displease the president

Counselor Bartlett made up a DVD of the newscasts so Bush could see them in their entirety as he flew down to the Gulf Coast the next morning on Air Force One.

Bush can be petulant about dissent; he equates disagreement with disloyalty

25. And this surprises anyone anymore?
This man truly thinks he is God. He doesn't have any problem speaking with God because he speaks to himself all the time reassuring himself he is still on top of the world and "connected" in all the right places.

He makes me ill every time I see his smug little face.

44. This is sounding a little like those stories in Capital Hill Blue
This is from that August 25, 2005 article in Capital Hill Blue on Bush's angry and obscene outbursts in private:

"...Bush, administration aides confide, frequently explodes into tirades over those who protest the war, calling them “motherfucking traitors.” He reportedly was so upset over Veterans of Foreign Wars members who wore “bullshit protectors” over their ears during his speech to their annual convention that he told aides to “tell those VFW assholes that I’ll never speak to them again is they can’t keep their members under control.”

White House insiders say Bush is growing increasingly bitter over mounting opposition to his war in Iraq. Polls show a vast majority of Americans now believe the war was a mistake and most doubt the President’s honesty.

“Who gives a flying fuck what the polls say,” he screamed at a recent strategy meeting. “I’m the President and I’ll do whatever I goddamned please. They don’t know shit.” ..."

I wonder who these Aides are who are revealing how "snappish" and unpleasant Bush is behind closed doors. Too bad they can't get video footage of the Chimp's fits of rage. They would be priceless to watch.

a dvd player or a satalite linked conference call. Hell, they don't even tell him when the capital is evacuated and his wife is stuffed into the basement! Why would they tell him this? It might make him choke on his food (McCain's cake), break a nail while strumming his git-tar, or fall off his bike.

Too bad they don't give him news like this when he is pretending to use that damn chainsaw. Now, that could be fun to see!

18. Bush runs a corporate government...
like in many corporations, by time anything gets to the CEO, it's been watered down so much. Most cronies will tell the CEO exactly what they know he/she wants to hear and nothing that will challenge.

Since many of his cabinet members come from the corporate world, they know how the game is played.

If you have ever experienced the corporate environment the first thing you will learn is people like to be lied too. They don't want to hear why it can't be done they just want you to shake your head yes even if its impossible.

The lengths people will go to, the money they will waste simply to not look bad politically is astounding. What is truly a good move for the company rarely happens because with it comes truth and with it comes pain.

60. The difference is that in corporations
that actually have to deliver products, there are always the people at the bottom who are giving the people in the middle a "reality check." And the middle managers have to walk the fine line between reality and spin. The good ones are able to deliver the reality to their "suits" with taste and talent, thereby keeping their jobs and yet keeping both sides happy.

What's happened here is that Bush's middle managers are no longer delivering him any form of reality whatsoever.

Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 07:26 PM by ecoflame
Never mind...I read this yesterday.

I do not find this funny.

"It's a standing joke among the president's top aides: who gets to deliver the bad news? Warm and hearty in public, Bush can be cold and snappish in private, and aides sometimes cringe before the displeasure of the president of the United States, or, as he is known in West Wing jargon, POTUS....The president's chief of staff, Andrew Card; his deputy chief of staff, Joe Hagin; his counselor, Dan Bartlett, and his spokesman, Scott McClellan, held a conference call to discuss the question of the president's early return and the delicate task of telling him. Hagin, it was decided, as senior aide on the ground, would do the deed."

The man is the President of the United States for christssake! He absolutely disgusts me, as do all the bedwetters that surround him. What a bunch of wankers that they can't bring themselves to tell the man the truth about the condition of anything.

61. See, that's the mark of a small and ignoble soul.
The mark of a wise person is how well she deals with dissent. A person of wisdom, when forced with an unpalatable truth (about themselves, or about the situation) will look it in the face, acknowledge the ugliness, and then try to figure out what can be done about it.

This President, like ten-year-olds everywhere, refuses to even acknowledge that there is a problem.

It is well-known that he also plays videogames during the workday (including video golf), and that he likes to go fishing and play real golf, too.

And he definitely does watch at least some TV--specifically sports. His so-called pretzel incident occurred while he was watching a football game on TV.

I suspect some of his time is also spent in a druken stupor and/or doped up.

And of course, he is in bed by 9:00 each night.

Anytime he tries to help or get involved, he makes things even worse with his incompetence. He doesn't have any idea what is going on around him unless his handlers tell him. He is making decisions that affect this whole country while having very little information about anything. He doesn't read, doesn't keep up with current affairs, and gets upset with his handlers if they "displease" him.

WTF?? Maybe someone should supply the boy king with an outline describing the duties of the President of the United States. He seems to think it is his country and his government to do with as he pleases.

Bush's handlers dont tell him ANYTHING but happy talk.

Bush's shockingly oblivious answers to Nancy Pelosi's questions were sincere. Stupid, ignorant, but sincere. No one had told bush that the handling of Hurricane karina was anything but a spectacular victory.

Excerpted from CNN

Nancy Prelosi related that she had urged Bush at the White House on Tuesday to fire Michael Brown.

"He said 'Why would I do that?'" Pelosi said.

"'I said because of all that went wrong, of all that didn't go right last week.' And he said 'What didn't go right?'"

34. Gov. Blanco "we need everything you've got." Bush then "went to bed."
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 08:28 PM by mzmolly
Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, a motherly but steely figure known by the nickname Queen Bee, knew that she needed help. But she wasn't quite sure what. At about 8 p.m., she spoke to Bush. "Mr. President," she said, "we need your help. We need everything you've got."

Bush, the governor later recalled, was reassuring. But the conversation was all a little vague. Blanco did not specifically ask for a massive intervention by the active-duty military. "She wouldn't know the 82nd Airborne from the Harlem Boys' Choir," said an official in the governor's office, who did not wish to be identified talking about his boss's conversations with the president. There are a number of steps Bush could have taken, short of a full-scale federal takeover, like ordering the military to take over the pitiful and (by now) largely broken emergency communications system throughout the region. But the president, who was in San Diego preparing to give a speech the next day on the war in Iraq, went to bed.

The next day, Bush took time out to pluck a quitar. My gawd.

42. Here is the excerpt from Newsweek
I'm not sure if anyone has posted yet, but here is the exact excerpt from Newsweek, re: the DVD.

I'm covering this on my blog. And basically saying that we now see the consequences of having a President that doesn't like to read, and doesn't live in the reality-based community.

"The reality, say several aides who did not wish to be quoted because it might displease the president, did not really sink in until Thursday night. Some White House staffers were watching the evening news and thought the president needed to see the horrific reports coming out of New Orleans. Counselor Bartlett made up a DVD of the newscasts so Bush could see them in their entirety as he flew down to the Gulf Coast the next morning on Air Force One."

We are truly seeing the consequences of having a President (and I use that in the loosest term possible) who doesn't like to read. A president who told his aides he likes to go to bed by 9 PM, and a president who has said he's not a reader.

If President Clinton were still in office, George Stephanopolous or Dedee Myer would have NEVEr had to make him a freakin' DVD to show him the gravity of the situation.

Remember how they said he was reading four books on his vacation? Yeah, right. Someone lob him a softball question about the simplest of those four books. ( I forget what they were.)Or, just ask him, Mr. Prez of the books you read on vacation which one did you enjoy the most and why?

Then watch him stand there looking totally stupid.

into one-syllable words?

"Water bad. Water hurt people"

Oops. Two syllables. Can't have that.

56. Bu$h was bored with his 'Faces of Death' DVDs. Needed a
greatest hits package from N.O. to get him interested.

Subject: "Duct Tape Theater" Humorous Flash Political attack ad online from Takebackthemedia.com creator "Symbolman"

Hi Keith

As the co founder of Takebackthemedia.com (we received over 100 million hits our first year) I've been on the O'Reilly show, and twice on Joe Scarborough's program for my media work (along with a Hollywood award for animation) and I wanted to share one of my fans favorites, called "Duct Tape Theater" flash political attack ad I created when they offered us Duct tape to save us from Terrorists.

Since you were hitting them hard on hiring for FEMA the Duct Tape DUDE on your show I thought you might enjoy this flash (one of 50 at our site)

Here's the link to it (featuring the music of the Dandy Warhols) - it also features symbol cards created by the Govt to help us that are incomprehensible... turn up those speakers..

Please feel free to pass it along on your blog at least, hope you enjoy,

Keep up the fine work,

"Symbolman" co founder of Takebackthemedia.com

I think this, along with the month-long vacations, goes further to prove that than anything. Unbelievable.
