What happened to DHS $$ allocated to State & Local |
|
authorities to buy emergency equipment after 9-11? Hardball touched on this briefly this evening, that the NOPD had no emergency radios after the power failed.
I did research for a company that was looking to supply disaster "clothing" last year, and there was a ton of money floating around for hazmat clothing, radios, etc. as part of the DHS grants from 2002 onward.
Many of the articles I found reported that the DHS money was spent on frivilous items such as exercise equipment for police station gyms, plasma TVs, and the like.
Who is investigating THIS?? A frickin outrage!

major stuff like trucks, ambulances, hazmat suits,two-way radio systems to allow their police, firemen, EMTs to communicate with each other in event of major emergency. But then guess what, their requests for funds were never honored. That was in the year after 9/11. I never heard about any "ton of money" floating around - maybe it depended on which state the requesters lived in. We know that Wyoming got more per capita than New York City.
