Wow, Di-Fi came through. She said she'd bring up Roe V. Wade
at the SCOTUS appointment hearing and she did.

1. I heard her and she was wonderful!!
It brought tears to my eyes to hear her talk about women's rights. I only wish there was some way that only women could vote on the abortion issue. Why do we allow men to choose what we do with our bodies? I do not think anyone with a penis should be able to decide for us. Oy Vay, don't get me started. I am a pro-choice Christian without much opportunity to vent on this subject, so you must forgive the rant. I am going to find a transcript of her at the hearing so I can pass it along to my friends. It was beautiful.

2. Yeah, I'm a politically and theologically liberal Christian who married
into a conservative fundagelical family and church. I only get to discuss this stuff online.

BTW, have you checked out the pro-choice site I listed in gender studies on my website? Good stuff there.

7. I just went and looked around. Thank you for that info.
There is so much there! Plenty to keep me busy and it looked like many topics I would love to learn more about. I am lucky in that my whole family are Christian Progressives and I get to rant any time I want to. We are a diverse family and I have openly gay siblings who have taught me tolerance. And I have taught them that God loves them. But at my church, I keep my mouth shut. The only time I opened my mouth was when one of the other mothers at my daughter's school (it is at the church) opened her mouth the day after the election in November. She was so pious at the thought that GWB was a Christian and he won the election. Well, after I almost punched her in her sanctimonious mouth, I decided to shut mine. But, in my parting words I did tell her that there would come a day that she would realize that she just voted for Satan. I pray those days are coming soon for my fellow Christians. So, I guess we all have places we can vent our feelings and places where we have to shut up! I am glad I found DU. Thanks for leading me to your site. God bless.

5. Then only men should get to vote on combat issues
Women are exempt by law from combat and exempt from the draft. Given that most pro choicers also expect that all tax payers pay for abortions it seems to me to be ridiculous that only women would get to vote, just as ridiculous as the example I just cited.

11. When men can get pregnant
then they should get to decide what to do with an unwanted pregnancy. And for the record, I do not believe tax payers should pay one dime for an abortion. But, women should still have the right. The alternative to legal abortion is illegal abortion and what happens then is horrendous. And also men pretty much do decide on any combat issues. History is riddled with the wars that were entered into by men. I guess we will have to agree to disagree, you and I. But, thanks for your input.

14. you are in the minority on funding
But again just what is the difference between your example and mine? Legally only men can be drafted and only men can serve in combat. To say that one gender has no rights to legislate on an issue, starts a very slippery slope.

12. Come on, dsc, she said please "forgive the rant".....I take that to mean
she knows she's expressing herself a bit overthetop and is asking us to understand that from the getgo.

Rants usually do mean more extreme wordings than one might normally put forth.

We all ask for some ranting room at times.

8. I must confess to gender guilt
when I see a bunch of good old boys bemoaning the "unborn". What is there about the word "choice" these self-righteous don't understand?

I had no doubt about that. She might not vote like we want all the time, but she is a strong liberal Democrat.

13. The last election was important which is why it sucked that we did nothing
about DIEBOLD. Voter turnout doesn't matter any more. They can fix any numbers to go their way now.

17. She brought it up. She'll let us down. She gave herself an out
First may I say-- what a ham! What is wrong with this person that she always seems so fucking self-absorbed? "Look at me! Look at how wonderful I am!" Very bizarre.

That's just me. On this issue, here's the thing:

Note how she said it. VERy draMATically she says she "if I KNEW a justice would vote against Roe v. Wade, I wouldn't be able to support..."

"if I KNEW...." She said it as if she was already planning on coming back, pointing at the tape and saying " I said 'if I KNEW...' How could I know definitely what he would do?"

Weasel words. Or is is a Leisl?
