Going off on federal bureaucracies, state and local bureaucracies, talking about how FEMA, Red Cross fighting over getting the credit for helping people.
"They'd rather see people suffer than not get the credit for helping them."

crap, but ** is trying to set up the dismantling of yet another federal agency in favor of privatization. 31. Exactly what I said to my wife |
|
Remember
"My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years," he says, "to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."
This is planned. Scarbourough and the Congressman (Vitter??) he had on got all hot and lovey about the ability of local groups helping out and being better than the bureaucracy they helped birth. While this is true, it reeks of a planned response.
Bureaucracy=BAD even if it is a well functioning one. Church / Local groups=GOOD President=RIGHT
Be careful of what you wish for.

24. Bill Maher nailed him the other night |
|
The latest "Real Time" episode is well worth watching. Some douchebag from the AEI sat on the panel with George Carlin, and a woman whose name escapes me. Scarborough was the second guest, and Maher didn't cut him much slack. I say "much," because I think Maher eased up at the end when he could have stuck another knife in, but all in all, he did a good job. And Scarborough had virtually no defense of Der Chimpassar. The only thing I didn't like that Maher let Scarborough get away with..."Florida had four hurricanes in 2004, and FEMA acted superbly! I cannot understand why it took so long!" Maher reminded him that Jeb lived there, and that it was an election year, but Scarborough seemed to miss the connection, and instead said, "Yes! Jeb Bush is in Florida. And Lawton Chiles. They know how to deal with disasters. They're ready for them." Maher tried to bring up the election-year connection again, but Scarborough and the audience messed that up, and Bill had to move on to the next bit.
BUT...Scarborough was CLEARLY on the defensive, and forced to distance himself from BushCo on a number of occasions. I didn't see him tonight, but I'll watch the rerun. I love to see "awakenings."

about how he had a truck full of supplies for this hospital in NOLA where he had an email from a nurse who described the horrible lack of supplies. When they tried delivering it, some FEMA moron, ARROGANT as hell, told Joe S. and the truck people to get the hell out; that they didn't need anything. ANd he told another story where the FEMA people told truckers who had lots of urgently needed supplies to turn around when they got to other devastated areas that really needed supplies.
Joe was going ballistic!!!!!

Scarborough, the government minimalist that he is, is probably setting the stage for a stand against the existence of FEMA. Don't let him get away with it. He'll argue that nothing, save for "compassionate conservatism", is better than FEMA, which is false.
Return FEMA to independence, as it was under Clinton and James Lee Witt, when FEMA really made a difference.

media was all over the CIA intelligence failures for 9-11 and the wmds to shift the blame this is what he is doing. It was all FEMA's fault.
Forget the fact that the president was on vaca, went to a fundraiser,a birthday party and a hootenanny and didn't do a goddamn thing for 4 days, forget that FEMA is part of Homeland Security, where the fuck was Chertoff during all this, or Cheney for that matter.
He is shifting all the blame to FEMA and making people wary and suspicious of government.
It isn't all government that is to blame, just the bad government of the Bush administration.
Do not trust him any more than you would chimpy.

The gist of some of Scarborough's rant was: once Bush found out about the disaster he was a real take charge leader. Scarborough spent most of the time hammering Fema, local and state gov. Listening to Scarbough it appears the repug plan is to isolate Bush (nobody told him) from the initial mistakes, then bring Bush onto the scene as conditions improve, implying Bush's leadership saved the day.
