NPR's All Things Considered on *'s visit of New Orleans

A good one (re: his comment about nobody could have anticipated the levees breaching - he 'cleared it up' by saying he meant after the storm had passed and news reports were saying N.O. had 'dodged a bullet')

"When that storm through at first people said, 'Whew!, there was a sense of relaxation. That's what I was referring to. And I, myself, thought we had dodged a bullet. You know why? Because I was listening to people....uh....probably over the airwaves...said the bullet had been dodged."

One of my favorite parts:

* on when he first realized how bad the storm was going to be:

"I knew that big storm was coming...uhh...on Monday so I spoke to the country on Monday morning about it....I said 'there's a big storm coming'. I had pre-signed the emergency declarations in anticipation of a big storm coming....which is, by the way, extraordinary. I..eh...uh...most emergencies the President signs after the storm has hit. It's a rare occasion for the President to anticipate the severity of the storm and sign the documentation prior to the storm hitting so we anticipated the storm coming."

The NPR anchor (Robert Seigel?) said the WH called back to clarify the President's remarks and say that the President spoke to the country on Sunday about it, not Monday.

6. Did he really say that???
That makes no sense. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch.

WTF does "...It's a rare occasion for the President to anticipate the severity..." Oh, bejebus, what the fuck is he talking about?

Why is he referring to himself in the third person? Is he channeling Bob Dole?

8. If he "anticipated the severity" IN ADVANCE, why didn't he do anything
about it? He can't even complete sentences. I think he is brain dead...I simply thought he was stupid before, but I honestly think we are looking at some serious brain damage. (Or maybe it really is stupididty, and he just keeps forgetting his lies.)

10. I do not speak well
in public situations. I get tongue tied and self consious. But never, ever do I babble like this. Ever.

I am endlessly sympathethic to people who get tongue-tied when they have to speak in front of groups, but this guy is the PRESIDENT not some nervous middle aged woman like me.

I agree, there is something almost autistic about Bush or brain damaged. Alcohol abuse can do this, drugs can do this. But there is something not quite right. He is not plugged in. It almost seems he is going through the motions of trying to say something meaningful. He can't so instead of just shutting up, he rambles and babbles.

He is an embarrassment. I could do a better job and that isn't saying much.

14. I get tongue-tied too (public speaking causes most of us a great deal of
stress) but not to the point of forgetting sentences halfway through. I know exactly what you're saying about attempts at meaningfulness or sincerity. He lacks both, IMHO. So he's not only stupid, and a liar, but he's also a VERY POOR ACTOR. Reagan had that mastery, and also had a very good quick wit. B* is, like you said, not "plugged in!" LOL... It seems like he's too lazy to fake it.

16. Aw c'mon. Don't slag autistic bain-damaged alcoholic drug
abusers like that. A person fitting into that classfication would do FAR better than Dubya in the public-speaking category. Or in any other category for that matter.

19. Bush thinks he's the weatherman.
As President, all he's supposed to do is point out "there's a storm out there" and he's done his job. What a feckless asshole.

20. "Extraordinary"
Doesn't that clamdip ask his Pop about anything? Nothing extraordinary about it. It's not common, but big honking Cat 5 hurricanes menacing population centers aren't real common occurrences either. Hell, ask Clinton, he's hanging around, and he's done it.

Doofus thinks everything he does is some sort of sui generis miracle.
