DU Activists, I need your help on this one!

My brother is up there working to prevent this. But everyone here can help by letting their Representative or Senator know that this blatant abuse of power needs to be prevented.

How can a mining company simply lie to get a mining permit and dump chemicals in a lake? They need to be prosecuted!

1. OMG
Unbelievable!! I just read this:

"The new plan calls for dumping the tailings into Lower Slate Lake, a 20-acre area, instead of stacking them over 130 acres visible from the Lynn Canal. Submerging them in water eliminates the potential they could generate toxins, meaning they would be inert, Richins said.

"We have to make sure the tailings won’t cause any problems with water quality downstream," Fogels said. "Essentially, they’re asking to ‘borrow’ the lake for a period of time, and when they’re done, they plan to restore aquatic life there… If that’s all done, there shouldn’t be any problem."

Fogels is the "large mine project manager for the DNR, which coordinates permitting for all state agencies".

Whoa, tell your brother to have the local city council people to call just about any local government in Montana about mine tailings, starting with Missoula:

I cannot even believe the flippancy with regard to mine tailings. The entire state of Montana is awash in mine tailing pollution. This is just horrific that they are using gold prices as their excuse. They did the opposite with logging in the Sequoia's saying it was fire prevention but the judge saw through that because of timber prices and issued an injunction just today.

Your brother needs to sue, or get the AG of Alaska to sue. That's what they did with Sequoia National Monument in California.

3. His organization is suing
they just filed suit yesterday.

But, of course, the more our representatives hear about this, the better!

2. I know the CEO of Coeur.

He used to be a client of mine, when I detailed cars. I also did yardwork at his lake cabin one summer for extra money while an undergrad.

North Idaho is a mess from the mining industry, I wish you luck in stopping further destruction of our environment.
