1. LOL My god he looks like a mass murderer in that one. :D
Photoshop some blood splatters on his face, and it would look like he just got done killing someone.

But then he also looks like Ted Bundy.

14. Anyone care to discuss something about him that matters?
Like his legal writings?

Roe v. Wade, anyone? How about states' rights issues? Separation of church and state?

It's pretty sad to see some of you focus on things a person has no control over, like personal appearance or the eagerness of photographers to publish unflattering images of him.

"I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul; a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country."

George W. Bush does because he's a Christian. The concept of a spiritual component with no dimensions doesn't impress me.

34. Ok. Substitute trustworthiness.
Quite often, you can look a person in the eyes and tell if they're telling the truth, telling you what they think you want to hear, or flat-out lying.

Will grant you, though, that this is a very unflattering pic to use as an example.

23. You go first. We have discussed and discussed and discussed
his legal writings on Roe v. Wade, State's Rights, Seperation of Church and State.

We have discussed all that over and over and over and over again. Right after he was nominated the FIRST time, all that was discussed. If you want to discuss it some more, have at it. No one is stopping you. Start a thread.

what's in the heart. It's OK to comment on them, esp when bored with the morsels of info we have been fed about this relative unknown who is suddenly lucking into a very BIG promotion. What we DO know about his decisions = not comforting. His face and his demeanor is fair game, as for any political candidate. Roberts will have a lot of political power, even though it may appear on the surface that he is not an "activist judge."

I've noticed that Roberts tends to grimace and look furtive. His eyes appear truly manic at times, his mannerisms do not inspire confidence. I'm not sure what this means, but it is interesting. I see a person who is obsessively concerned with being correct, an authoritarian who puts a lot of pressure on himself and is not very comfortable in front of others. I hope he just has a bad case of performance anxiety and may not turn out to be as dangerous as we fear.

But if he does turn out to be a demon, Swamp Rat's going to have fun with those eyes. :eyes:

I had to stop listening to the hearings, but left the TV in the living room muted and forgot about it. Everytime I've gone to the kitchen for coffee, and passed the screen, his eyes are bulging in fake earnestness and seriousness. It's quite revealing to watch this phony with the sound Off!

18. Optical device malfunction?
Role of Optics in Very High Throughput Communication for Parallel Processing
J. Allen Cox
Honeywell Technology Center

>>Since most of these systems are assembled from multiprocessor, memory, and special-purpose digital signal processing chips, the ideal communication bandwidths between them should be ~Terabit/s. Optical parallel data links and free-space switches provide a realistic path to achieve these required data rates. The optical interconnection fabric is in turn enabled by dense "smart pixel arrays" consisting of arrays of vcsels and photodetectors integrated with arrays of micro-optics and further integrated with silicon CMOS circuitry. I will describe several programs at Honeywell to develop the optoelectronic components, most notably the vcsels, as well as the major parallel data link and switch modules. I'll also try to identify several challenging mathematical problems that have been spawned by these technological developments.<<

I tend to do the same thing.

He has learned to do this to keep from scrunching his eyes. So his eyes say one thing while his mouth positioning betrays his stress level.
