"I take responsibility"
Shrub just said that concerning the failure of the response to Katrina. I am stroking out.

Must suck to be them now.

*sigh* W will probably end up getting credit for failure again.

14. THIS is the new spin. He's going to try being noble at
taking everyone else's failure upon himself, while subtly (and not so subtly) implying that he isn't really to blame, but as president, he must shoulder the blame for everyone else's shortcomings because that's what a Leader does. Watch it happen.

and they're going to find accepting responsibility plays so well they'll wonder why they never used that tactic before..cause it is a tactic...Bush doesn't mean it.

32. I'm not sure it's going to work, though... they've waited so long
to do it that to many people it's going to look like what it is... a ploy. If he'd done this last week, I think he could have pulled his ass out of the fire. I think it may be too late now.

36. I think it's way too late and maybe most Americans will too
but we all know the bots will hammer it home like you said..."leader doing what a leader does"

I was being facetious as well....being honest never occurs to them so it being a novel approach for them they will be shocked how much better honesty is

21. Good call- I was just getting ready to write a RW speech template
to be used by all their people as they attempt to enshrine W.

I would like the thank President Bush for taking responsibility ...taking responsibility is something we Republicans do....the President showed great leadership in taking responsibility even for those who shouldered some of the blame themselves but sought only to blame others.....

33. Oh Gag...I can hear it already. Full responsibility for NEGLIGENT
HOMICIDE? Full responsibility for MASS MURDER? NO, his "full responsibility" is likely to cast blame on others.

35. Legacy Building
That's what I smell. Expect the gushing guffaws of W's honesty and "doing what is right" despite what is best for him.

(rasies back of hand to furrowed brow) Oh my he is ... he is so selfless in the face of relentless blame (Scarlett O'Hara southern accent gets really heavy here) what a fine fine man he is. He cares not what others will think of him only what is right and true and just in this dangerous dangerous world.

Trust me this is what is coming. The stinch will be worse than W's mess in New Orleans.

30. I agree. They exhausted all other avenues. He was doomed in the polls
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 11:30 AM by ultraist
So they had no choice but to try this approach.

It's a novel approach from them! Mr. "I cannot recall a single mistake" is trying something new. Hmmm...

Watch for this to be their new theme, reving up for the midterms and the 08 GE: taking responsibility is something we Republicans do....the President showed great leadership in taking responsibility even for those who shouldered some of the blame themselves but sought only to blame others.....~Underpants

And by default they are saying:
'Democrats have no solutions, are weak do nothings who simply play the blame game.'

He accepts responsibility, but then what's he going to do about it?

If it's just words, who cares?

9. Good, then he needs to resign.
This isn't some minor political indiscretion. We're talking about the deaths of American civilians. People who died of neglect on his watch.

The only honorable course is for Bush to resign. NOW!

Of course he takes responsibility...he's Prez. But don't worry this "claim" will be watered down (pun intended) by cries of "local and state government at fault".

Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 11:28 AM by ComerPerro
He will never actually take responsibility.

This way, they set it up so that even though he is "taking responsibility", it seems to the Bush loyalists that he is doing so because no one else would accept responsibility. They are trying to make it look like its not Bush's fault in any way, but that he is taking responsibility anyway because he is just "that kind of guy".

Its BS.

Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 11:17 AM by symbolman
then he needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for negligence, etc..

Let's Show him that there is a price to PAY for accepting responsibility, a LEGAL one.

Hey, this could be good.. Bush accepts responsibility, Cheney has a heart attack and dies in disbelief and feeling full betrayal, as Hastart runs to McClellan to get him to spin the message he falls and hits his head on the podium - we IMPEACH BUSH and then.. then..

PRESIDENT BYRD takes OVER :)

34. So is he saying then
that the Feds ARE responsible, after spending the last two weeks pointing fingers at the state of LA?...and IF SO....how about we demand accountability!....empty words from an empty man with an empty soul...and now that all the "undesireable" people they wanted out of NO are successfully spread all over the states...what does he have to lose with that small show of humble?...When you consider he can't accept responsibility for something that they maintain, wasn't their fault, how much importance can be attached to his statement? NONE...play on words is all it is..and you can bet your ass, someone is waiting in the wings to explain what he really meant, and of course, it wasn't what he said...LOL...almost hilarious...
