Wanna get rid of Conservatives....... Get rid of Racism..
Most societies have class warfare. The poor class against the rich class. However in this country, because of the inherent racism , poor whites have not joined the struggle along with poor blacks. This is not just explained away with the "Southern Strategy". This has always been the case.

If the poor whites would join forces with the black struggle, instead of voting against their interests.. the Republican party would cease to exist.

2. Add sexism .
IMO just as important and an even better example of individuals voting against their own self-interest.

3. Really
It's only a small portion of poor whites that vote against their interests, as well as a portion of poor blacks (mostly for "religious" reasons).

Problem is, most poor people don't vote, because they don't think it makes a difference.

Divide and conquer. This has been going on since the emancipation. Back when the robber barons needed to break a strike they would ship in non-english speaking immigrants. Then when they needed to break the strike again they would ship in southern blacks. Mind you, the robber barons never told these people they would be strike breakers, they just promised jobs in the mills, slaughter houses, mines, etc. Why do you think the inner cities are populated with african americans? This is where a lot of racial hatred stems from in the North. The republican robber barons are masters at playing off groups of people against each other.

However, race baiting is not the only tool at the conservative disposal. There new tool seems to be religion baiting. Using pastors and churches illegally as a political organizing tools. This is where the nightmarish danger of conservative justices such as Roberts and his ilk are at their most frightening. Rehnquist led the move to erasing the dividing line between church and state. Bush's justices are hell bent on finishing it.
