You know what? This latest Chimpy stunt is going to work |
|
I can see it now.
That's just how much stock I put in the average American's intelligence.
They will forgive him, and it will be Sept. 11 Bush all over again.
Sorry to be a downer, but that's the way I see it.

1. Don't think he'll be forgiven, but do |
|
believe the attacks from his supporters might slow down.
We'll see what happens (number of protesters) during the 9/24 march...

This is the only talking point the rightwing needs.
"The sign of a true leader is one who accepts responsibility"
They don't even care that it's pure politics.

4. No, I don't think so. Not this time. |
|
Because it isn't just Katrina, although that is more than enough to open the public's eyes. It's also the Iraq war. The economy. The lies. The shirking of responsibility.
I just don't see this helping him very much. Maybe a bit, but only in the short-term. As soon as more bad news hits, and it will, the backlash will be brutal. His numbers will plumb new depths.

What? 15 days later he finally finds his bullhorn moment, and everyone says, 'Aw, don't worry about it. We're so glad you're here?'
Been waiting for it, been wondering when it would come, is this it?

The 10%-20% in the "middle" really decide elections. Some don't know what they are doing - and some take it very seriously.
Bush never had the 40%-45% of us on the "Left" -- and he will never lose the 40%-45% on the "Right."
His 40%-45% support him - even after 9/11, even after failure to capture binLaden, even after never finding WMD, even after 1800+ US deaths in Iraq, even after false economies in the pre-Katrina lead up to Katrina, even after the rampant cronyism laid bare by Katrina. After all, he's is "pro-birth" and "pro-intelligent design" and "pro-birth" and doesn't believe that stuff about global warming or peak oil, and will protect us from stem cell manipulating. FORGET THEM!!
Our job is to concentrate on the 10%-20% in the "middle" who really decide elections -- and don't let them forget his massive screw-ups and murderous cronyism.
And our other job is to keep our 40%-45% from running after "ideologically pure" fringe candidates in 2006 and 2008.
If we lose 2006 and 2008 - it is our suicidal gestures --- the Repugs are giving those elections to us with their cronyism and mis-management.

If you believe in accountability, change your government by voting out these corrupt, ineffectual Republicans." (wait for applause)

but accepting responsiblity doesn't change the fact he fucked up; now he's forced to admit that (to a certain extent at least). And this undercuts their efforts to blame everyone else. If he does this early on, maybe he stops his plummet in the polls. It's too late now. This is the last recourse the WH has. It's their last option, not their first.

that the public is that stupid. The truth is not in evidence for anyone to get a true handle on what the public thinks. With our election process busted, media consolidation, and corporate takeover in all things government the american public is out of the equation, not because of stupidity but because of ignorance. With all the secret ops, and back-door policys...who among us is not ignorant?

|
I don't think it will do much more than that.
Though it WILL give many in the MSM an opportunity to begin fawning over him again as a great leader who takes responsibility, but I think Katrina woke a lot of people up and there's no going back from that. Once you see the Emperor naked, it doesn't matter if you put clothes back on him.

This move of his is meant to shore up any loss with his religious conservative base, which is likely to give any contrite white man a pass on gross incompetence.
Frankly...for me this faux apology only cements in my mind that Shrub is completely diagnostic for anti-social personality disorder (aka. sociopath).

15. I disagree and here's why |
|
once people don't trust someone (52%) as of today , bush can't just wave a magic wand and earn trust back.
after Sept 11th 2001 people gave bush the benefit of doubt and trusted him . Over 4 years later and bush has blown that trust that Americans gave freely .
Trust is a very hard thing to get back once it's lost .

19. I think it's too little and too late. |
|
And outweighed by too many classic moments people won't forget.
"Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job!"
I think you can count on that Newsweek story on how out-of-touch Bush is -- needing the DVD his aides made to catch him up on the news -- to get a lot of attention, too.
His patrician attitude and lack of concern were just too obvious. And it didn't help that Babs reinforced that image of the entire family.

If * really (and I mean reeeallllly) humbles himself before the American People (via TV) this might actually deflect the level of negative opinion. Nothing thrills the Hoi Poloi better than "I F'd up, and I am so sorry. Please Forgive me, Please" The ancient Greeks had a word for it--Apologia.
