Breaking Raw Story: Gov Blanco took all neccessary steps in Katrina
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 01:48 PM by DemsUnited
Nonpartisan congressional research report finds Louisiana governor took necessary steps

John Byrne

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) issued a report Tuesday afternoon asserting that Louisiana governor Katherine Blanco took the necessary and timely steps needed to secure disaster relief from the federal government, RAW STORY has learned.

The report, which comes after a request by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) to review the law and legal accountability relating to Federal action in response to Hurricane Katrina, unequivocally concludes that she did.

"This report closes the book on the Bush Administration's attempts to evade accountability," Conyers said in a statement. "The Bush Administration was caught napping at a critical time."

ON EDIT: Congressional Research Service is part of the Library of Congress, funded by taxpayers, and THE research service used by Congress. It is bipartisan and extremely credible.

ON EDIT: The full report will be available soon on the House Democrats' Judiciary website.

4. Anderson, Jack Cafferty and Keith O might hit on it but dare I say
that because it is so soon and so squarely lays the blame on the Feds, they will once more fera they'll look biased if they bring it up.

I am hoping against hope that all the reporters who found their spine these past couple of weeks will retain it and never forget.

2. Now you know why Bush
is taking responsibility. He cannot escape because all the documents have dates.

"This report closes the book on the Bush Administration's attempts to evade accountability," Conyers said in a statement. "The Bush Administration was caught napping at a critical time."

23. A major hero
He did his job and he did it well. He evacuated without any help from the Federal Government 80% of New Orleans. That has never been done before in any major city.

When an event is so enormous that it will overwhelm the resources of local and even state officials, it is the job of the Federal Government to come in run things. They already had all the permission they needed. Instead they deliberately withheld assistance on purpose. The result was the death of 1000's of people.

28. This Was All Bush's Fault
The first two things I heard about Gov. Blanco were that she declared a State of Emergency, requesting Federal help BEFORE the hurricane hit, and that as soon as it did, she instructed her State's Attorney Geeneral to prosecute anyone price-gouging these desperate victims in Louisiana. Also, just to mention, by listening to C-SPAN over the years, and the speeches on the Floor of Congress, I can't even count up the number of times I heard Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana beg for funds to fortify the levees at the spot where New Orleans is next to Lake Ponchartrain--only to be cold-shouldered by REPUBLICANS, who never gave anything. Everyone I have heard of, from the Mayor of New Orleans, to the Governor and Lt. Gov., to Senators, etc., was completely informed and intelligent, and on the ball from the very start on what needed to be done--and God help them, they had to turn to Bush for help!
