US planes strike 10 times near Syria border
From: Reuters From correspondents in Ramadi, Iraq
September 14, 2005

US aircraft struck insurgent targets in the Iraqi town of Karabila, near the Syrian border, more than 10 times overnight, a hospital source said.

"American aircraft have struck the city of Karabila more than 10 times," the source said.

...

Iraq and the United States have complained that arms and fighters are being smuggled across the border with Syria for deployment in cities across Iraq. The Baghdad government closed the Syrian border in places on Sunday.

The US ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, said: "Our patience is running out with Syria".

Bush Seeks to Pressure Syria Over Lebanon, Iraq

Washington (VOA) -- President Bush says he is trying to bring more international pressure on Syria to stop blocking emerging democracies in the Middle East and to secure its border with Iraq.

President Bush says Syria must change its behavior when it comes to blocking democratic reforms in Lebanon and allowing terrorists to cross the border into Iraq.

Following meetings with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Mr. Bush said Syria can do a lot more to prevent the flow of foreign fighters into Iraq.

"These people are coming from Syria into Iraq and killing a lot innocent people. They are trying to kill our folks as well," said Mr. Bush. The president says he will discuss the issue of Syria with world leaders meeting in New York this week for the United Nations General Assembly.

...

If Syria does not, Mr. Bush says President Bashar al-Assad will find himself increasingly isolated. "The Syrian leader must understand that we take his lack of action seriously, and the government is going to become more and more isolated as a result of two things," added Mr. Bush. "One, not being cooperative with the Iraqi government in terms of securing Iraq, and two, not being fully transparent about what they did in Lebanon."

This administration is freaking me out!

1. *Yawn*...
I know it's cliche, but we've know that this was coming since Mid-2003.

9. Heck, if you read the PNAC website, you've known since 1998.
It's in full view - out in the open - yet the media still seems blinded by its very existance.

12. PNAC is not entirely true...
Beijing -- for all the rhetoric -- is not an enemy of the neo-conservatives.

Beijing's openness to corporate interest, state-controlled unions, and lack of regulations to ensure that workers are paid fairly and have their rights protected ensures that Beijing is a friend to the neo-conservative movement and its big business masters.

21. I never claimed the PNAC was true
only that they've wanted to attack the Middle East like domino's since 1998.

2. Looks like it's time for Israel to send missiles into Iran.
Then of course the boy King can come to the rescue four days later.

13. Thanks. I hope he will be OK.
I have a young Army Sgt. friend who spent a tour of duty at an ammunition supply depot in Tikrit. He came back OK but he was on base 98% of the time.

19. Scary times we're living in. My boys are still little, but I worry that
we'll never get rid of the junta... just get a new figurehead every so often but continue on down the merry path to complete annhilation.

11. No. I just found out the son was in the army last week.
His dad is a freind of mine who just moved back from Florida after spending a year repairing his home from Hurricane Charley damage. (He had to fix the house before he could sell it.)

The kid is just 21. He joined right out of high school. :(

15. We'll keep him in our thoughts and prayers...
My 7 yr old little boy has been asking about the draft lately. He's read a lot about WWII, and says he likes playing computer war games, but has no interest in really being in a war.

I explained all the facts - ages range of draftees, how it probably wouldn't happen because people would be outraged, how we'd relocate out of the US if it happened, etc. but he's not reassured. He says he 'doesn't trust this president'... which makes sense, since he and some of his friends came up with their own slogan during the 2004 elections - "Bush is scary! Vote for Kerry!" lol

I can't imagine having my baby over there. All those people over there are someone's babies...

8. And here I'd put my gamblin' money on Iran....
Guess I should cover by putting money on Syria now, too...

So Cheney's thinking nukes in Iran, but can they do that in Syria? Isn't it too close to Israel?

22. No need to cover your bet, double up instead
Syria and Iran have created an alliance against United States. If Syria is invaded, Iran will be drawn in, too. This damn misadminstration is playing a crappy game of checkers while the rest of the world is playing a masterful game of chess.

23. And if we attack Iran, China will be involved, too...
Iran is a key provider of oil and gas to China. Even if China doesn't support them militarily, they may hurt us economically via trade sanctions.

26. Neocons certainly do have a problem with patience
The US ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, said: "Our patience is running out with Syria".

The boy king lost his patience with Saddam. Kind of makes you wonder who this unelected shit is who is beating America's chest for WWIII. Since when does the US ambassador to Iraq make pronouncements like this? Who the hell is running this country? Oh, right. PNAC. Never mind.
