My letter to Senator Conrad "horsemeat" Burns (R-MT) |
|
Senator Burns,
This afternoon, I received an email written by someone in your office in response to an email I had sent you urging you to impeach and remove President Bush for his response to Hurricane Katrina. In the email, your staffer included the following paragraph: "As you know, there are those who would prefer to blame federal efforts in response to the Katrina aftermath . . . . However, I strongly feel that now is not the time to be placing blame and pointing fingers. What we have to focus on now is helping these folks that do not have homes, jobs, or even clothes to wear because everything they had was wiped out by the hurricane."
What a crock! Your party has been on full finger-pointing-blame-Democrats mode trying to pin the blame on Governor Blanco and Mayor Nagin since the disaster began. This is despite the fact that the Wall Street Journal reported today that Governor Blanco did everything in her power to mobilize a response, and that it was the federal response that was woefully inadequate.
The delayed and inadequate response is ultimately the responsibility of the President. He may have “taken responsibility” this morning, and he may have accepted the resignation of FEMA director Michael Brown, but justice has not been served. As President Truman famously said, “The buck stops here.” President Bush must take real responsibility, and he must face the consequences of delaying aid for five full days.
I am renewing my call to you to urge President Bush’s impeachment and removal. If you sincerely believe that lying about a private sexual matter is an impeachable offense worthy of removal, then surely you must agree that the willful delay of aid to tens of thousands of needy American citizens is also.
When you respond to this letter, please actually address the issues I am speaking about, and do not send me another form letter written by a staffer only marginally addressing my points.

Burns' staff sends a lot of issue-dodging responses, but the response today was beyond the pale....

2. Nice. I've enjoyed Conrad's part in the Abramoff scandals, |
|
as much as I didn't enjoy being up early enough to catch his Ag reports while a wee lad.
Tell me, who do you like as his Dem opponent in 2006? Morrison? Tester? Other?

5. I really don't know enough about either of them yet |
|
Unfortunately :-(
I am also planning on possibly living elsewhere by the time the 2006 election rolls around (grad school), so I haven't paid as much attention as I probably should.

6. I am not sure he realizes how much of a chord that little ammendment... |
|
...struck. I've had out-of-staters excoriate me about Conrad Burns' horse-hating fetish.
