Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 05:00 PM by Feeney2
Anyone with pic please post, but it didn't take a disaster long for the silliness to set it. The shots of the fake doctor in his whites delivering his own down home medicine is a disgrace. will someone please sue this quack.

15. Haven't those people suffered enough?
Dr. Laura would go on a tirade on each and every Katrina victim in her very unique holier than thou way. What a fraud she is. Even more so than Dr. Phil.
An adulteress who had an affair with her married boss, (who she then married -- breaking up his family), and who neglected her elderly mother so the extent the woman was dead for weeks before her body was found.
But who is rigidly religious, extremely rightwing, and expouses conservative values.
Yikes. Hurricane Laura. Devastating.

He should be giving diagnosis via telephone without actually MEETING the patient face to face like Quack Dr. Frist did.

19. I have NEVER seen a psychologist (PhD) nor a Psychiatrist (MD) wear a
white coat! Typically white coats are only worn by MD's, and because white coats tend to scare children and mental patients, pediatricians and shrinks usually avoid them. This is pure garbage, and is as bad as Frist's photo ops holding people' hands in the astrodome with Gupta. So phony! And a white coat in flooded, muddy, death-ridden NOLA? Dr. Phil went down even further in my already low/mediocre opinion of him.

My internist hubby would say the same thing. I'll never forget his white coat ceremony the first day of med school, and it was quite something to see him wear the long coat the first day of residency. Those coats have meaning, and that schmuck needs to take it off.

47. Exactly -- it denotes a level of expertise and position
It's a major no-no. My mom and sisters are nurses, and --e sp. when they worked in hospitals -- they've told me there's a definite protocol and meaning to the length of lab coats (doctor, Nurses Practitioner, PA, etc.). Ordinarily, nurses of all ranks (except for NPs), etc., don't wear lab coats. I just called her -- she said psychiatrists usually wear coats when they are making rounds... that's it.

84. MDs wear the white coats so patients know who they are.
That's why the psych guys wear them on rounds--if they only have the scrubs on, then it's confusing as to who they are. Everyone wears scrubs, but only doctors wear the long white coats. At least, that's how it usually is. I have known PAs who wear the long white coats, but they also have PA after their name, not MD, on the coat, so at least there's some clue as to who they are.

Honestly, it just goes to show that Dr. Phil is a schmuck.

18. There isn't.
Everybody likes to wear scrubs these days. And It's hard to tell an LPN from an aid from an RN. A lot of patients get confused.

And the white coat, a Phd wearing one on a hospital floor would be very confusing. But that is just my opinion. And by shrink, I thought you meant psychiatrists. :)

Maybe they should wear different colors or something.

part of the role-playing he needs to do. So he can establish medical authority right away. You know - he's got to get a whole pile of police to open up and cry & talk out their worst feelings. Because they went through hell 2) getting shot at or being outnumbered by a huge number of people in Superdome 1) being helpless to help victims who were begging (because cavalry didn't come to back them up & there were no busses or supplies).3)In a sense they had to retreat every night - while people were calling for help and control.

A really, really bad mix for first responders. NO police were hung out to dry and the guilt & shock could be devastating to each cop if they don't get all kinds of help - right now.

Dr. Phil would wear a tutu if it would help the process of healing.

89. How does it help to exploit these people's pain for ratings?
Everybody wants to play Gawd these days.

And FWIW, I was only a lowly Respiratory Tech and we often wore white lab coats - I just pulled one of my old ones out so my daughter could use it for her microbiology lab - when switching off the floors or ER and going into NICU or ICU. The reason was to protect vulnerable patients from cross-contamination.

But we wore nametags to show our "rank" and I always found a real doc if anyone ever confused me with one, and made clear I was not one myself before doing so.

Those coats also kept us warm, so even some nurses would wear them on night shift when the AC was cranked up....

And DR. FillYerHeadWithShit would help people more by keeping his media entourage out of the mess right now.

46. Donning my flame-retardant suit to say Dr. Phil's book helped me
His first - Relationship Rescue - really did help me rescue a relationship.

I don't watch his show but I think some of his philosophy is right on.

76. Dr. Phil is so full of sh*t, on every level ... white coat or no, he's
still full of sh*t!!!

HATE that guy! I'm waiting for the day that someone he has browbeaten on television commits suicide, and the family sues him for his billions and billions.

79. I love this guy the way I love Ed McMahan
Dr. Phil has a great thing going. He uses Jedi Mind tricks to build rapport with someone so desperate they're willing to hang their laundry on national television. Then he invents a story that explains their problem to which they readily agree (considering who's watching). And then, not surprisingly, he magically solves the invented problem for them. Presto! The man is a genius.

Someone should produce a game show based on his act. Maybe they could call it "Iron Shrink" and Bill Shatner could host.

86. You can get scrubs at wal mart.
Dr Phil, Dr. Laura, what I have found in 35 years of health care is that those who believe that "Doctor" is their first name are usually either a)not physicians but want the honorific to support their ego, b)if physicians, not very good.

91. And that's why it is disturbing that he is there
Sean Penn is getting all kinds of grief for trying to help. Dr. Phil gets a free pass and all he is is a media whore quack.
