FEMA outsources Katrina body count to firm implicated in body-dumping scandals

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has hired scandal-ridden Kenyon International to set up a mobile morgue for handling bodies in Baton Rouge, Louisiana following Hurricane Katrina, RAW STORY has learned.

Kenyon is a subsidiary of Service Corporation International (SCI), a Texas-based company operated by a friend of the Bush family. Recently, SCI subsidiaries have been implicated in illegally discarding and desecrating corpses.

1. dammit
"Recently, SCI subsidiaries have been implicated in illegally discarding and desecrating corpses."

Great. We will never know what the true body count is.

6. How do they do this? How do they find the worst possible solution
to every single problem? They must "work hard" at it. That's for sure.

7. Years ago I represented the owners of a cemetery in a sale
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 05:37 PM by rzemanfl
to SCI, I was local counsel and a big city-based cemetery law expert was also involved in representing the sellers. Deal fell through and it was learned that the big-city attorney was to have received a $150,000 "finder's fee" from SCI although supposedly representing the sellers. I see they haven't changed their ways

8. SCI was "exposed" about 5 years ago in the NY Times
Largest funeral chain in US

Buy up formerly "independent, family owned" local funeral homes-
    keep the old name
keep some of the old management

centralize buying of caskets, embalming, vehicles
but charge families based on the old "small funeral home" price

tremendously profitable

lobby assiduously to stop cremation, "do it yourself" funeral co-op societies

But - "they all do it" - send out bodies to other undertakers for embalming, cosmetology; bait and switch on caskets. SCI does it better and wrote the book and pays off politicos.

Don't say that your community funeral director (the one who buried grandma) doesn't do it. His kids sold out to SCI ages ago and are now SCI employee-shareholders.

MacFunerals.

Blanco has now hired them because Kenyon decided not to represent FEMA due to a contract dispute.
