Does anybody really expect Senator Kerry to get installed Thursday? |
|
Is everyone so excited by the chimps speech Thursday because they think that chimpo would resign and appoint senator kerry as president? I dont mean to be a kill joy, and I hope like hell it happens but I just can't see the gibbon resigning, and b, if he does resign by some miracle, that a republican congress will elect Democrat to fill in the vacancy . Sure I really want to see Murder Inc go down in flames and Kerry be installed by Friday but I just dont see it happening. Do you?

13. So why make the assumption? |

If there is no post to speak of, why make the assumption that someone on DU thinks Kerry will be pres if boy king were to resign.
I guess I'm confused.

But i was wondering aloud if thats what all the hub bub was about earlier. If people were thinking if the Gibbon were going to resign and the chimp would install Kerry. I really dont see what the fuss is.

There was so much wishful thinking and I admit to being a tad hopeful, but bush's ego prevents him from realizing what a danger he is to this country.
Then we'd have Cheney to worry about and so on.
But, alas...Kerry to take over for bush would be such a sweet dream and to see the repuke heads exploding all over the place...a sight I could only fantasize. :)
Thanks for the few moments of disconnect from this reality we call hell.

Cheney becomes president. If Cheney and * resigned, Hastert becomes president. If Hastert, Cheney, and * resigned, Ted Stevens becomes president. If Stevens, Hastert, Cheney, and * resigned, Rice becomes president.
This bullshit speculation about extra-constitutional occurrences only feeds into negative images of DU.

POTUS has no powers except those itemized in the Constitution. These do not include selection of a successor, with the single exception of a VEEP vacancy.

and C. No, I do NOT see that happening. (see A.)
I don't know anyone who's excited by the prospect of this speech on Thursday. It's just going to be Rovian Bullshit to spin the last two weeks, especially the past few days.
He's going to hammer home what his deluded mind sees as his "accomplishments", shadow-box around his "responsibility moment" today, and reassure his base that all is well.
And there will be rejoicing in Kool-Aid-ville.

34. well, if Bush resigned Cheney would become president, not Kerry |
|
he can't just appoint the president. What would need to happen is Cheney, the president pro-tem of the Senate both step down. Condi resign and then Bush appointing Kerry Secretary of State and then resign making Kerry president. But none of this is going to happen because Bush isn't going to resign. How this idiotic rumor has gotten traction on DU is beyond me.

36. What has made my jaw drop |
|
is that you seem to think that a resigning President appoints his successor. Do you not know how things work when the President leaves office before the end of his term?
The Vice President acts as President until such time that a special election can be held to choose a new President. But the special elections are never held - the VP just assumes the Presidential office and serves out the term. He appoints someone to act as his Vice President. This is what happened after Kennedy was assassinated and after Nixon resigned. In the case of Nixon, his Vice President, Spiro Agnew had already resigned, and he had appointed Gerald Ford to take his place, so for the first time in American history, after Nixon's resignation, America had both a President and a Vice President who had not been elected (of course, we can always add Bush to that number now, considering that both the 2000 and the 2004 elections were bogus).
I am hoping that you've posted this in jest, and that you don't honestly think that Bush gets to appoint his successor should he leave office before the end of his term.

He's not resigning...just planning on a larger power grab.
