"Culture of Life" denounces "ANTI-CATHOLIC" questions re: Roberts
Contact: Austin Ruse, President, 202-289-2500, 646-322-4420 cell; Mark Adams, Communications Manager, 202-289-2500, 318-794-1170 cell, both for the Culture of Life Foundation

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 /Christian Wire Service/ -- Statement of Culture of Life Foundation President Austin Ruse:

"We condemn Senator Feinstein's attempt to place Judge Robert's Catholicism at the center of his confirmation hearings this afternoon," said Culture of Life Foundation President Austin Ruse.

"Using the context of John Kennedy's Catholicism, Senator Feinstein asked Judge Roberts if he believed in an absolute separation of Church and state. In her questions and comments Senator Feinstein invoked those terrible debates in America about whether Catholics could have a role in the public square. Apparently Senator Feinstein agrees with those who feared faithful Catholics in public office.

"Senator Feinstein's questioning is an unconscionable dredging up of a dark time in America. And her questioning comes perilously close to a religious test for pubic office. She owes Judge Roberts and all Americans an apology."

The Culture of Life Foundation is a Washington DC-based research institute that gathers and disseminate the facts and science related to the culture of life broadly understood.

1. At the current time, the Catholic Church is spending millions in the
anti-abortion fight in this country. When a church is working against a Supreme Court decision, a nominee who is a member of this church does need to be asked where his loyalties lie.

(This isn't Kennedy and it isn't 1963. The Catholic church has been spending millions every year since 1973)

2. Is it just me, or does this statement make no sense?
"The Culture of Life Foundation is a Washington DC-based research institute that gathers and disseminate the facts and science related to the culture of life broadly understood."

That seems to be a real mess, grammatically.

Right in line with their logic.

Feinstein was questioning ROBERTS' attitudes to church/state separation, not all catholics'. Straw man argument.

3. It's anti-Catholic to ask a judge about separation of church and state
On the other hand, Reagan sending the FBI around the US to try to seduce Catholic nuns working for peace and justice in El Salvador, or Reagan sending money to the El Salvadoran government, which helped kill and rape three Catholic nuns less than a a month after he was elected president, and which killed the Catholic archbishop in cold blood, and then attacked his funeral mass, never mind the other priests and whatnot killed - that's not anti-Catholic, of course.

As a baptized Catholic, my mind boggles at these things. You almost wish to go back to the days where Kennedy was denounced for being a stooge of the Vatican, because nowadays Kerry is denounced for not being a stooge of the Vatican with regards to abortion and so forth.
