Amtrak
Does anyone have a copy of the full article from the Financial Times showing that FEMA declined Amtrak's assistance? Or any blog that may mention the same thing?

1. There was the story on CNN about NO refusing that "last train". Think
it was because they called in late and offered it as people were already being told to battern down the hatches.

2. .
The reason I ask is because the Freepers claim that trains were offered but turned down by the city of NO. Russert asked Nagin about it on Sunday but he seemed unaware of this.

On the top 10 Conservative Idiot countdown on DU, it had a link to a Financial Times article that said that FEMA actually turned down the assistance. This is the link, but you have to have a subscription to read the entire piece:

3. The last official train went out - then AMtrack sent in a empty train -
I guess to get some stuff. Then they called and said "we have room for 100 (or 300). Was not acted upon.

Don't know how late it was on Sunday. Don't know how much warning local officials had. Or if announcing it on the news to people who had no cars to begin with and could have shown up in thousands..

Not really an issue. A train wasn't going to save anyone except for 100. How do you get people there? I mean they were sending all people to the Superdome and had FEMA acted like the organization it was under good governance, then those people would have had generators on day two or three for the toilets, and busses.
