Does any repuke ever tell the truth about anything?
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 08:14 AM by leftofthedial
I'm trying to recall a specific example of any of the repukes speaking the unvarnished truth . . .

(I don't mean the bushturd's inadvertent "truths," like wishing he was a dictator, etc.)

All I ever hear is them outright, bald-facedly lying their butts off, or obfuscating, of evading, or spinning.

2. John Conyers, Dennis Kucinich, the Congressional Black Caucus
all have been speaking truth.

But I mean even the non-politicians, like talking heads and radio talkers . . .

7. I'm jaded enough
to think that lying is a bipartisan trait. I tend to believe people who have little to lose by speaking the truth. Most politicians spin for votes.

However, I will admit that that I have never really studied the issue in regards to specific politicians. Mathematical odds would dictate there has to be an honest one out there somewhere.

9. there are lying Democrats
but there also are Dems who speak the truth. Even the liars among the Dems occasionally speak truth. I can't think of a single repuke--politician or otherwise--with a commitment to the truth, or even the occasional accidental trait of speaking it.

20. Not after it's been spun
I've known honest politicans who have been embroiled in scandal
due entirely to spin from their lying opponent.

3. At the time of Nixon, some did.
Now they wouldn't know truth if it danced naked before them.
Originally they were fighting hard to justify selfishness as a positive force in society. The day they switched to justifying that generosity is a negative force is they day they lost all contact with reality, ethic, honor, and truth.

8. sad truth about the Murkan right
They were involved in Kennedy's execution. Watergate was a palace coup within the repuke party. It was all based on lies--Nixon's lies AND the lies of those who brought him down and seized control of the right. Reagan was a farcical empty suit. In mythologizing him, the right disconnected itself from reality and now has degenerated to the point that, as you say, they wouldn't know the truth if it danced naked before them.

I can't think of a single truth-based or fact-based RW position on any issue or significant public statement.

22. "to justify selfishness as a positive force"
--really works well for them as a group construct--and as you say, PurgedVoter, the next step is painting generosity as a negative.
Lord of the Flies mentality.

This philosophy appeals to people who have been taught that you can lie, cheat, and steal to get ahead. Just ally with others like you, take VERY good care of your 'friends' and DON'T get caught.
The concept of Truth in any situation is always debatable, always negotiable. It's a whole world view, expressed from the top to the bottom of society. 'The ends justify the means' is taught from birth, at different socioeconomic levels. These people are taught to be "looters" at a young age. They just do it more politely.

I think most repuke voters are pretty up-front and outspoken about their bigoted views, and are proud to be assholes.

21. on many levels I agree
but I think there is a deeper problem. The people who been persuaded by bad information cannot help but make bad choices. Garbage in, garbage out.

The sad part is that although I know some who can honestly look at new information and continue to make new decisions as more information is gained, I know far more that are very stubborn and now would never admit they were wrong.

They stuck up for Bush before and now that the crap is hitting the fan (although it's actually been sitting in front of the fan since 1980), they refuse to admit that maybe they were fooled or that they were wrong and will go on justifying their actions, blame the Clintons for everything, and call everyone else "brainwashed socialists."

Or maybe that's just my family. Who knows.

ALL are based on lies and require an ever-widening web of lies to sustain.

Another bizarre twist of logic. Since he didn't have the intelligence of NO WMD's he had to attack Iraq.

I've heard that argument somewhere.

36. Rudman wrote Hart-Rudman Report on Global Terror with Hart. His
integrity is the reason why Bush flat out rejected him for the 9-11 commission, even though he was the preferred choice of the 9-11 families. He's also the one who convinced Bush1 to nominate Souter, a moderate, to the Supreme Court.

Rudman is also an old-fashioned Republican, more of the Jim Jeffords sort.

Leach was the only Republican to vote AGAINST Newt Gingrich as speaker. He's also very much against the exploitation of religion and publcly decried their alliance with Moon.

The others all have had their differences applauded here every now and then.

33. If Republicans ever told the truth
No one would ever vote for them. It's that simple. They have to lie to survive politically. I mean, who would vote for a guy who wants you broke, worked to death, with no medical insurance or retirement funds, no worker protections, no child labor laws, no nothing? You'd have to be insane to vote for a Republican. So they lie and lie and lie.

Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 07:01 PM by jokerman93
There is no truth out here in the post modern desert, only the muscular framing of disputable facts, and the Darwinian struggle of competing reality memes. It's like the legends of the last days of Atlantis, for cripes sake! I'll be so glad when this reality-building obsession is over and we can get back to civil discourse.
