Santorum shows no sympathy
Editor:

In response to the tragic consequences of our federal government's failure to respond to the disaster in New Orleans and Mississippi, Sen. Rick Santorum said: “You have people who don't heed those warnings and then put people at risk as a result of not heeding those warnings. There may be a need to look at tougher penalties on those who decide to ride it out and understand that there are consequences to not leaving.”

Many Pennsylvania communities, including Berks County, are offer-ing help to the victims of Katrina. Yet our senator manages to have the rest of the country believe that we are not sympathetic.

Has it occurred to Santorum that the majority of those who did not evacuate simply had no means with which to leave the city? Many had no car or gasoline or money to afford a hotel. Others were simply too sick or too elderly to get themselves out. Some were patients and doc-tors in hospitals. And some simply could not bring themselves to desert their animal companions or their historic homes, which had been in their family for centuries.

Of course Santorum could not understand someone feeling possessive about a home since he doesn’t live in his supposed residence in Pennsylvania.

3. The victims are all 'post-birth' people. If they were fetuses, he would
be singing a different tune. He's also batshit insane.

6. HA! I didn't realize other parts of my state knew about his residency
AWESOME to know that even in Reading, they know he doesn't reside in PA. I live in Western PA so it's been big news here, but wasn't sure about other areas of the state. Hope they also know that, not only does he not live in PA, but he USED this state to pay for his kid's cyberschool education (taking money from a less-than-affluent Penn Hills).

In your face, (P)ricky...you are TARGET #1 in the 06 elections.

7. Every one in his district
should communicate to Santorum their total displeasure and make it perfectly clear that they will not support him in the next election. When our politicos know that their jobs are on the line, then and only then will they heed the ideals/ideas of their constituency.

9. Out-of-shape millionaires caught on mountaintop, call for copter rescue
These macho wanna-be Indiana Jones adventurers, who sign up to climb the Matterhorn, then can't handle the altitude or weather and call for rescue - -THOSE are the people who deliberately placed themselves in harm's way and put their rescuers at risk and SHOULD be charged for the cost of the rescue efforts. Santorum for all his hypocritical Opus Dei (which means god's work) devotion, is the anti-Christ on this issue. And he's not much better on any other issues. Bob Casey Jr. is going to clean his clock come the next election!
