Roberts is very evasive
Is that the mark of a good Chief Justice?
Biden calling him out on just giving his own dang impression of whether the family or the courts have the right to remove feeding tubes.

2. I agree
Roberts has not revealed a thing about how he's going to act when(if) he is confirmed.
This guy is smarter than I give him credit for. I guess the supremes get to act any way they want and don't have to answer to anyone.

17. I like the poem that summarized Roberts hearing to date
http://www.moresoftmoneyhardlaw.com/

Must the Court bless smut and other such vices?

I can’t say much but: stare decisis!

May a President jail any and all in a crisis?

I can’t say much but: stare decisis!

Will the Court defer or will it despise us?

I can’t say much but: stare decisis!

Is privacy protected in all shapes and sizes?

I can’t say much but: stare decisis!

Are your views like Bob Bork’s or more like Brandeis’?

I can’t say much but: stare decisis!

Will you ever say anything at all to surprise us?

I can’t say much but: stare decisis!

Do you still favor term limits—a time when you’ll go??

No.

3. I just got into an argument...
with a naval officer over this. He was quite proud at how evasive Roberts was being, and how dare "that piece of garbage" Kennedy ask him theoretical questions....

Then the discussion devolved into whether it was morally right to lie to a commission to get a job, with the officer claiming that it was ok to do whatever it took to get on the inside.

:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Why is it that moral scumbags keep getting in charge, while I who try my best to uphold the standards of honor courage and commitment will never get advanced...
::sigh::

Don't worry, rant's over. I'm used to it by now.

4. Everyone Fails Upward Since Dubco Came To Town
Liars are promoted and evasiveness is especially cherished.

At least you will have a clear conscience.
Take it to'em Shipwack!

5. Ask your naval officer (I live with one, but the good kind)
If failing to give a direct answer to a direct question is honorable.

The only time you "evade" is when you are hiding something. Hiding your responses is dishonest. What's to be proud of dishonesty?

If you have nothing to hide then be direct. You can always qualify an answer, but you have to give it first.

Life is sometimes more simple than we think.

12. He has a twisted sense of "honor"...
He told me that reporting waste & fraud or sexual harassment might be considered wrong by some since it would bring "dishonor" to the unit...

I let him know that such thinking had no place in my Navy.

No wonder I'm going to retire as a First Class /E-6...

15. you're right - and to sum up
getting caught brings dishonor. Unless it was his butt that was getting group diddled or his money that got stolen.

Allowing someone to be a victim of sexual harassment or to get away with stealing money from the government is certainly NOT honor.

If you have honor because you have managed to keep from being dishonored, it's not real honor. To have real honor you have to do honorable things, even if they are hard to do.

7. Beats the shit out of Slappy Thomas' performance
He told the senators he had no opinion on abortion, never really stopped to think about abortion, never spoke to another soul about abortion. He was so fucking ludicrous (and had that Anita Hill thing hanging over him) that he was all but guaranteed rejection. But lucky him, he found the magic words, high tech lynching, that sent Biden backpedalling so hard he was in California before he put the brakes on.

that he even made it.

Edit: Toobin admiting that Roberts is not really forthcoming.
Candy stating that many people think he is a smart guy and dubby would have hit a triple had Katrina not happened.

13. Somebody ought to ask him this question...
"Judge Roberts, with all due respect, do you as simply John G. Roberts (no titles) have an individual, unique, and/or thoughtful opinion about anything? Do you ever get an idea without quickly putting it out if your head because something might change that idea tomorrow?"

21. I love freudian slips!
Anyway, I can't imagine the other supremes dealing with him either. Weren't there rumors that Scalia was so desparate for the chief justice seat that he was threatening to resign if he didn't get it? I doubt he'll be totally accepting of Roberts, who for all of his self-proclaimed humility and modesty sure seems to think he knows, is and has EVERYTHING. I get the idea that Scalia thinks he knows, is and has everything but would never call himself humble or modest. Oh to be a fly on the wall.

22. You got that right
Mr humble seems pretty cocky to me. Not the kind of new young whippersnapper that I would follow if I were one of "them". Probably a catfight between Scalia and Roberts.
ABC is reporting the foregone conclusion that he is in like Flynt. I sure wish that he could be rejected or at least have to provide more backup information.
