I just can't watch Al Franken anymore |
|
My partner cringes, as I do, at all the inane laughter, and the false convesations he invents. They laugh at everything including MUCH that is not fun. The singing is absolutely gross, as are the constant interruption of his guests(who are great). Things like the "Oy Oy" show may work on radio, but fall flat on tv. Couldn't he be serious? His singing is hideous. Add that to the fact that he is a "can't just leave Iraq" Dem and I have had enough. I will miss the guests.

5. Sundance Channel, I think at 11:00 PM |
|
It's just a shortened version of that mornings radio show. Kind of like the way Stern's TV show used to be (I couldn't stand that either).

15. Radio shows shouldn't be TV shows... |
|
It's bad enough tryig to listen to the guy two hours straight, but trying to watch him for even a fraction of that doing what he does on his radio show. heh. I can't imagine how bad tha can be. I like Franken and all, but a lot of the show is just pure inanity.

I think the singing is worse. Why do I listen? I'm waiting for him to get good.

I just can't leave the radio on when that nonsense starts.
Never thought I'd be turning off Liberal talk, but that "Johnny Angel" spoof has me running for the radio with a baseball bat.

9. Al Franken is a great commentator, and a genius writer... |
|
...however on any visual media, has always come off as unfunny, and just sort of goofy.
Just look at the bits he used to do on the old SNL series he used to write. His writing that the cast used to perform was comedic genius, however when "Franken and Davis" was on, it just was just plain unfunny.

16. Yeah, I pretty much ignored him when he started focusing on politics |
|
I figured he'd be the same snooze he'd been on SNL.
But I love his show. (haven't seen the Sundance version, but I'm sure it loses a lot, and is mostly for diehard fans, like any TV-version-of-a-radio-show...)

Al said it had "run its course" almost immediately after a thread here on DU where poster after poster waled on that segment.
I thought the timing was interesting.
Wish they'd bring it back once a week or so.

25. It would have been more tolerable.. |
|
...had they done it once a week. But doing it everyday grated on me. I started deliberately waiting until AFTER 12:35 to tune in since that was usually about the time the Oy Yoy Yoy show started. Once a week would have been fine.

26. That's a summary I agree with |
|
He does an uncannily accurate Pat Robertson too.
Al has great guests and I love his (progressive) regulars, especially David Brock and Joe Conason. I wish he would talk less and let them talk more. I zone out when he repeats one of his stock stories and then I end up missing something valuable from the guest.

18. For me, Franken is a hit and miss |
|
Sometimes his show is actually quite good, other times it's quite lame and boring. I agree with you about the fact that he's a "can't just leave" Dem though. He actually supported the invasion in the first place too. Get a clue Al, it's been long past time that we left. Overall, he's a much better writer than a radio host. For the real deal I turn to Randi and Mike.

21. His "ummmms" are really annoying. . . |
|
so I stopped listening to his radio show. . .can't imagine watching him go "uuuum"!
Maybe he'll be better as a MN politician than radio host. . .time to move on, Al. . .better sooner than later.
Heard Jesse Ventura last night on Mike Malloy Show (with subs Rieckhoff and Lappe). . .now there's a stand-up, frank ex-politician for MN. . .against the war from day one. . .we have a government of chickenhawks. . .are just a few of his refreshingly direct comments.
Frank-el has not been frank enough to be a convincing liberal talk show host. . .instead he tows the Dem's party line.
:boring:

22. From Day 1 Al Franken was over-hyped |
|
He kept pushing his own book, he used his absolutely stupid ditto-head friend endlessly, he kept his focus on giving his enemies maximum air time by focusing on them.
Which Right Wing Talk Show Host gives any Liberal Talk Show Host as much time as Al Franken gives each of them?
And all the qualities you so perfectly enumerated were given by me in a thread soon after he came on air.
All his jokes are so so stale.
His is the worst show on Air America and the worst among all the Liberal Talk Shows on the Internet!!
I have refused to rate him.
I am glad that Thom Hartmann is on at the same time so I do not even have to think about listening to him!!

28. If one wanted to debunk Republicans |
|
the best way to do that would be to have them say what they have to say, and then point out how wrong they are, point-by-point.
Franken does a good job at that.
It's boring to listen to radio hosts do endless monologues. I prefer Franken's method.

He is a writer not a broadcaster or interviewer. So he his doing very well considering.
And many moderates, no matter how we were lied into Iraq & how badly it was lost with incompetence, want to see enough Iraqi troops so that there is at least a chance for some sort of stability. MAybe 6 more months will do it.
If the whole Middle East falls apart - we will be back there in two years - this time a draft.
I think that is what Al & other moderates want to avoid.
Kids of repukes should be encouraged to sign up now. And Bush should make a speech on that.
