I think this is one of my favorites on Air America. It's on pretty early where i am so i download the podcast to catch the first hour. the Lawton Smalls character is pretty damn funny.

Perhaps the most eloquent person on Air America. He always thinks before he speaks. A rare trait.

I actually didn't used to like it, and actively avoided it. Mark Maron seemed really grating, and Mark Riley seemed kind of stiff and dull.
But recently I gave it anotehr chance and got hooked. I love his off-the-wallness combined with his political passion and sharp intellect. he's a very compelling character. I also like Mark Riley more too. He's more substantial trhan he seemed at first.
I also like the fact that it's political, but broader than that. Air America might do better if it covered things like culture and trivia mixed in with the piolitics.

I LOVE Cardinal Mort Milfington (Jim Earl) the best. All the writing staff's various characters are good. Here's a site that archives Lawton and all the others. http://www.thesnotgreensea.com/"Who's choppin'onions?"

on comedy central. Man he sure rips into republicans. You'd think he'd want to play it safe, a lot of comedians would, but he just goes for it. Really good stuff.

Love Marc and Mark. They have a very lively program which doesn't bar any holds.
And what a cast of characters:
Future Marc -- I love that guy. Lawton Childs -- Remember, you can't spell Lawton without Dubya. Pendejo -- Viva la revolution! Cardinal Mort Milfington The death notices (name?) -- The Liberal Confessional The Morning Sedition Cliff Notes The Liberal Agenda -- FAXed directly from the Streisand Compound. The Morning Sedition Players
And on and on and on.
I go into withdrawal when I can't listen. Thank goodness for Podcasting and Air America Place.

10. We're lucky in Sacramento, |
|
they broadcast Morning Sedition 6 - 9AM instead of Springer. I really like the shows edge. The few things I've from springer though sound pretty good.
P.S. I think you can stream it from KSAC, the sacramento AAR affiliate.

13. My favorite AAR show, and the only one I listen to consistently any more.. |
|
I've got one problem or another with the rest of them.
Springer's a whiny, blubbering toady.
I'm at work when Franken's on.
Randi tends to spout whatever comes into her head, which means she occasionally throws things out as facts when they're not even remotely true. She's gotten better (she was a lot worse when she was just out own little local treasure here in South Florida), but it's still kinda annoying.
And I don't listen to a lot of radio at night.
Mark and Mark make good points while still keeping a good sense of humor. It's a great show.

Mark & Mark kick butt. :) I listen every morning. Lawton Smalls cracks me up...especially since I've run into people that think that way, sometimes they even SOUND like Lawton! Whoever does that character is doing a heckuva good job. The break-up-and-cry thing gets a bit predictable, but no biggie. Gotta love the War On Brains too...

19. For me by far the best thing on AAR! |
|
It's the only show I listen to regularly and here's why: It's the only show that is even remotely "news" talk. The other hosts tend to just spout and rant. (Franken has guests too I guess, but that show has its own problems.) MS actually brings in newsworthy guests, authors, artists, etc., and they talk about current events.
Mark and Mark are a great combination also. I noticed that when Maron is on vacation and Riley takes over, it's so earnest and serious that is sounds like NPR, only louder.
And when Riley is on vacation and it's only Maron, it degenerates into Maron's morbid self-absorption, with little actual factual awareness or knowledge. Maron seems to know relatively little about political history and he admits on the show frequently that he only recently became political. That works when the two are together, and Maron asks questions that many in the audience might want to ask and Riley, with his encyclopedic political and journalistic background, answers.
When both Riley and Maron were absent (like the first week of Katrina), the guys who usually write and perform the skits took over and it was so pathetic it was sad. These guys didn't even realize the news importance of Katrina until bush did, and didn't even discuss it!
The show works well when all its pistons are firing, and they are a great ensemble.

Too bad they moved it from 6-9:00 AM to 3-6:00 AM here in Portland to make way for Tom Hartmann's local show on KPOJ. (Tom's show is needed, however, to counter the local RW idiots like Lars Larson, et al).
