Vermont: Atheist Running for Senator
It's something of a truism that atheists can't get elected to public offices in America, but one atheist is trying to prove that wrong. In Vermont, Bernard Sanders is already a Representative and is trying to be elected to the Senate in 2006.

I'm new here and not sure why I can't make the html work correctly.

8. There are often atheists running
But seldom examples of them being elected. In fact there are often cases of them being publically evicerated for being honest.

3. Ain't that the truth.............
Declaring their faith is probably the 1st lie that many aspiring politicos make.

6. For research
The www.celebatheists.com is now back up and running. So if you want to look into any known individuals that are openly atheist that is a place to start.

10. I think they all are, but pretend to be religious.
I mean if you really believed in a Christian Hell, would you lie and steal as much as they do?

17. If you are a hypocrite you are.
Are you a hypocrite? Do you go to church on Sunday for appearances? Hmmmm? Or, are you an honest atheist?

18. Sorry but I don't buy into the crap that if you're a good person you're a
christian and if you're a bad person you must be an atheist. I'm offended by your original post that these people are liars and cheats and are therefore atheists.

19. Of course you are offended because you reparsed my
words and changed the meaning of what I said into something that offends you. Good try, but no cigar. You know exactly what I said, but you want to pick a bone with me because you think I am a Christian. Hahahaha.

20. What you said was offensive, I really don't care if you're christian
You said because they lie and steal that they must be atheist, I don't know how that's reparsing your words.

13. Haaa! Not openly.
When asked about swearing people on the bible, Michael Newdow was laughed at by SCOTUS when he not-so-jokingly said that an out atheist couldn't get elected in the US.

Sad but true.
