Should we all wear Mardi Gras beads to the Sept. 24 protest?

And our signs can say SHAME.

1. Yes!!!
That is a wonderful idea! There should be a jazz funeral band with umbrellas too - for the Crescent City!

Wish I could be with you - know that I am there in spirit!

7. I'm hanging in there - battling the bureaucracy and the silliness
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 04:57 PM by merh
But I am alive to fight the fight, so what more can I ask for. I have friends on the "Missing Persons" list, that is a very strange feeling.

I get mail now and I just went to Mobile and bought a used car to get me around, I am making progress - its the little things that give such pleasure, one day at a time, one step at a time.

Thanks for asking and please - purple and gold and green colors for New Orleans - let the bastards know that you will never forget what they did to New Orleans. And please, don't let them forget about us -- our cities were bombed by Katrina - we are in ruins, but we will not give up - it would be nice if FEMA and the Red Cross had their acts together to help us. :grr:

So good to see you! :loveya:

What a nightmare merh -
and to think you're so much better off than some - so so glad you and your family got through it - we were worried about you. BOSSHOG finally posted today - we had not heard from him since right before. His house is still there, just some damage.

16. I saw his thread and posted.
He is right about FEMA - as a homeless member of society, I am really frustrated by their slow responses - they have to view my slab and ruins and decide how they will provide me shelter - I can't find out how I get them there or what I may be entitled to.

I love my sister and her family, but I have lived on my own for better than 20 years, I long for a quiet room. ;-) But, I am better off than some, it is just hard to be patient.

5. Let's spread the idea - I think it could work and doable for most people
I used to work in a Cajun restaurant and I had tons of those things - will have to find them now - maybe the party store?

12. I used to order these for the restaurant and most of the outlets are in LA
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 04:04 PM by Stephanie

But the beads are cheap so if anyone is shipping from there some of us could order bushels and bring them along.

Sounds like Mardi Gras Outlet is trying to keep going, but I don't know if we would get them in time:

Hurricane Katrina Update: We are located in Baton Rouge, LA -- we were spared the worst of Hurricane Katrina.

WE ARE STILL SHIPPING YOUR ORDERS, usually the same day they are placed (before 2PM CDT). We appreciate your thoughts and prayers in this difficult time. A very big thank you goes out to all of our customers who are buying beads to use for Katrina victim fundraisers.

Note: OUR PHONE SERVICE IS INTERMITTENT. Please place your orders online if possible.

Note: UPS is currently experiencing delays for most packages. Please choose FedEx services for the most reliable delivery!

This is a protest not a party. The public needs to see we are serious regular Americans concerned about the direction of our country.

30. A party? The beads are a symbol of New Orleans, the city that was drowning
- while George Bush ate cake.

We march in solidarity with New Orleans.

We march against the war.

We march against George Bush.

Beads are a symbol of our unity with the people of New Orleans.
