1. off track
i think we have seen this administration get far enough off track and under the scrutiny of enough people that the expected "bump" could be more of a poke in the ass with a sharp stick.

wishful thinking? maybe. but it's a whole new ballgame now that so many eyes are seeing the man behind the curtain.

it is time to "turn the corner" and we liberals must "stay the course!"

3. I don't think so
Bush blew it. He should have given this speech the day after Katrina hit.

No amount of Rove / Hughes mumbo jumbo weepy eyed lies are going to pull his ass out of this frying pan.

No one is going to watch it.

4. Only if he demands the resignation of every one he has appointed
Including Dick (Head) and then resigns and commits himself into a hospital for the CRIMINALLY INSANE.

That and only that would raise his numbers.

5. Bush's speeches have not helped his poll numbers lately. They
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 06:10 PM by rzemanfl
may try something, but I think it'll fail. His "strongly dissapprove" is about 45%, those people are us and we ain't budging.
So all he has to work with is the 10% or so who "somewhat disapprove"
these pollsters are businesses, they may fudge, but they aren't going to perform a miracle for a lame duck loser.

10. This is correct. His tv speeches lately haven't wowed anybody
and haven't gained him any ground.

I suspect, with the nation souring on him, this won't help, either - UNLESS he does something COMPLETELY extraordinary, undeniably good for the nation (and thus, completely out of character), and resigns. THAT would get great ratings. AND it would gain him some back-handed sympathy. He'd get a LOT of good press for "doing the right thing and putting his country above his own interests").

Yeah, I know. COMPLETELY out of character and certainly not to be expected. It's the last thing he'll do, but it's the first and ONLY thing he should do.

6. It Will Be a HORRIBLE Speech, I Guarantee It
He will seem bored, disengaged and insincere. I can guarantee it. It's a speech about a subject he has absolutely NO interest in; helping poor, unfortunate people. It's not about going to war or killing or destroying, so he will have NO interest and it will be obvious. He's being FORCED to make this speech and it will show.

If it doesn't involve killing things and blowing things up, he doesn't care about it.

7. He may get a bump
But I dont think it will be a large one, there are though people who still buy his "freedom, freedom, God Bless, God Bless" mantra

12. He'll bring up September THE eleventh, and probably Iraq, too.
And it won't help. Especially since polls are now showing he's losing support seriously among independents. The hardcores will stick with him, and that'll be it.

Here's hoping that IS it. Because the rest of the evening, and all day tomorrow, THAT will be the story - "bush can't stanch his own blood flow..." and "speech didn't help him..."

11. No way
When have you ever seen him give a speech that made him look good? If they are reduced to manipulating the timing of bad poll numbers to make it look as if his speech gives him a bounce then any bounce will be short lived at best. Besides the speech will suck and will most likely piss people off even more than they are now, I think everyone is starting to realize that they are far less safe than they were on 9/12/01.

15. Welcome to DU! It's gonna be his usual wooden, phony schtick.
He's gonna be there, on camera, with his brow furrowed and that urgent look on his face, and it's just gonna be empty. Again, I'll find myself noticing how much he looks like a little boy who snuck into his daddy's closet and stole a suit and a dress shirt. It always looks like his clothes don't fit him, or don't belong to him. Especially around the neck and shoulders.

14. He hasn't given a good speech in ages.
Whoever his speechwriters are, they really, really suck. It's like they can't come up with anything new. Just the same catch phrases over and over and over again.
