Blanco calls for Fed Gov to finance 100% of LA rebuilding
"as they did in New York after 9/11"

This was the part of her address to the LA legislature that struck me the most. And right after she said this, she said something like "we have a friend in Pres. George W. Bush."

2. She is putting him on the spot before his speech.
She also accepted full responsibility for her failures in dealing with Katrina. No equivocation. No qualifiers, like Bush.

She's trying to trump him, make him look like a douchebag tomorrow night. It's already in the advance notes that Bush will call for "the local community" to pick up part of the tab.

4. Was this on local news or national? I'd like to hear it when I'm
done with work.

I think she knows that one has to kiss GWB's ass to get anything from him, since he has no integrity whatsoever.

6. It's a shame it's only a snippet. I'd like to hear the whole thing.
Why should Bush get all the air time?

13. Here's a more in-depth article from the Baton Rouge Advocate about it
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 06:40 AM by ...of J.Temperance
I've now posted this article on at least FOUR separate threads. I admit on first impression from the OTHER articles, I did think that Governor Blanco had been strongarmed by the Bush bastard.

Then my Uncle e-mailed me this article about it from The Advocate, and I now feel reassured and I think the Governor is playing this very smart and I think she's also playing and using the Bush bastard. Lots of things in this article that I'VE wanted: investment in jobs, rebuilding houses, restoring communities, state workers and companies to be at the core of rebuilding, wanting to return folks back to their own homes. The Governor has done well, even though she must have been under INCREDIBLE pressure, she's done well. She's taken her SHARE of the blame for the state level, because THAT'S what adult's do.

http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/091505/new_blancoblame001.shtml

And as I pointed out on another thread. Peppi Bruneau can fuck off, he was VERY bad mannered to my Grandmother once, this was about 6 years ago, but she soon put the stupid asshole in his place.

Also the asshat Mike Foster needs to take HIS share of the blame too. He was Governor for 8 years and all he did was mess around duck hunting, riding his Harley and doing two radio shows.

7. She did very, very well in her address. She may not have been
the "General" the state needed the first 48 hours after Katrina hit, but it seems as if she's the right person to pick up the pieces and make Louisiana whole again.

And she definately took full responsibility. Put a hand over her heart, looked at the legislature and said, "as your governor, the buck stops here".

Does the LA legislature have a republican majority? How did they receive Blanco's address?

"The buck stops here." I love that expression.

11. She got much applause and a standing ovation at the end.
It was perhaps not blindingly enthusiastic, "you're my hero", kind of applause but it certainly seemed to be a show of support.

Not sure what the democraticic/republican split is.

12. "AS YOUR GOVERNOR, I ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY...."
There is a thread on LBN which implies Blanco is accepting full responsibility for the total fiasco in New Orleans, and DUers are putting her down for that. Please remember that she did not do that. If you get a chance to hear the whole speech, you will notice that she said, "As YOUR governor, I accept full responsibility...the buck stops here." She was addressing the LA legislature and the LA people. There is no way in the whole world she would accept resp. for the Federal (bush) response to the hurricane.
