WHY? Makes no sense
quote.....
BATON ROUGE, United States (AFP) - Up to 200,000 families who lost their homes to Hurricane Katrina may be forced to remain in emergency accommodations for three to five years, a US disaster official warned.

Why does anyone need to be in temporary shelter for 3-5 years?

2. Why? Okay I'll tell you why...(updated to add more comments Diaspora)
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 10:19 PM by ...of J.Temperance
They want as FEW of them returning to NOLA and indeed Louisiana as POSSIBLE...so they won't be able to vote in the next Governor and Senatorial election in 2007 and 2008.

Notice the wording: "may be FORCED to remain in emergency accomodations..."

So, keep 'em in Utah and such places, where their votes WON'T count. This has given the Repukes a chance to break up a solid Democratic voting block and they NEVER want these people in large numbers back in that place as a solid voting block.

I hate the fucking Grand Old Pig party, they're vampires, this has only further confirmed it.

What the Repukes have done is a modern day Diaspora. In the 6th and 8th Century, the Jews had a particular amount of power, because they lived in close-nit communities as a unit. The powers that be hated the power the Jews had, and so they did what became known as the Diaspora. This was they went in and gathered up all of these large Jewish communities and dispersed them in smaller batches and made them live amongst HUGE numbers of Gentiles, in large Gentile communities. Which of course, by doing this broke up the large Jewish communities and watered down vastly their power as a unit.

The GOP have done the same with the NOLA blacks, who as a unit TOGETHER had great power in elections. By scattering them in smaller units all over the place, they've taken that electoral power off them.

5. So, what we need is special dispensation legislation - and fast
to allow all of those that are displaced and registered with red cross or fema to be allowed to vote absentee in these local and federal elections from where they have been relocated to until such time as they are allowed to return or declare intent to relocate in the new area for good.

We need to protect their rights to this and NOW.

9. I've read some of the Louisiana State law regarding absentee ballots
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 10:00 PM by ...of J.Temperance
And the way I read it, under clause 4, if you're going to be outside of the state in a temporary way for the election period, OR outside of your parish in a temporary way for the election period, then you're allowed to vote by absentee ballot.

I'm hoping that Baton Rouge is working on it. I'd prefer as many folks back as possible, even if they live in tents or something, because in these out of state FEMA camps I don't trust them...as soon as a batch of absentee ballots turn up FEMA could just destroy them.

11. For decades we've relied on the votes of the Crescent City to put us
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 10:07 PM by ...of J.Temperance
Over the top in elections. In Orleans Parish, we get somewhere between 94,000-150,000 votes (depending on our candidate), MAINLY black votes too.

The GOP areas of Orleans Parish usually muster up between 30,000-60,000 votes and of course are pretty much white votes.

It's SICK what the Rove bastards done...however, I must admit, that if I were in the same position I'd have probably done the same thing from a purely political standpoint...say Colorado, and I had the chance of fully removing the ENTIRE GOP area in Colorado and scattering them around 24 states, I'd do it hands down.

4. A lot of the housing will probably be replaced with
places poor folks - including the working poor, of which NOLA had many - won't be able to afford.

A lot of their jobs won't be coming back, either, I would guess.

So it is a long-term issue.

I'm glad they're at least trying to get people back to Louisiana. The idea of people being spread to the four winds and on their own to try and make their way back home broke my heart.
