2. I've seen 'Standing Watergate' and 'High Watergate' ... there
doesn't seem to be a name appropriate for the scale of death, destruction and devsatation.

Raises it to the level of the scandal that brought down Nixon.

8. Watergate seems more potent to me.
Since Nixon's Watergate, there have been so many xxxgates.

I agree with libertypirate that renaming this scandal Watergate brings it full circle. Powerful. Makes people stop and think.

Watergate was bad juju scandal, of course. Led to the rampant distrust of government throughout American society today.
