Did I just hear on NBC that Gov. Blanco stated it wasn't Bush's fault? |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 08:21 AM by Verve
It was a blurp by Ann Curry giving the top of the hour news. Talking about hurricane Katrina's response. Gov. Blanco taking some responsibility for the slow response time and stating it wasn't the White House's fault.
Did she really say this? If so, WHY? Please someone say I was mistaken!

Cheer led by Ann Curry onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln while she was there to "report" on the "Mission Accomplished" speech.
GE hath spoken.

3. She said, "mistakes were made on all levels. We need to |
|
investigate what went wrong at the state level so it never happens again. The buck stops here. As governor, I take full responsibility."
Basically saying she's responsible for anything the state screwed up with, as she should be.
I hate it when press doesn't give full quote.

7. I have this sinking feeling that the press is starting to kiss Bush' bum |
|
once again. Just a few spins from the truth like this and Repugs will be back to liking this guy again. I hope I'm wrong.

12. Doesn't her accepting responsibility with a qualifier |
|
equal Bush's accepting responsibility with a qualifier? We bashed him for having a qualifier, and not her? IMO, he's quite MORE responsible in this situation. Secondly, I don't believe him and I tend to give her the benefit of the doubt, (I don't know her that well, but have heard good things about her). Lastly, why, for the love of God, is she kissing Bush's ass? She ought to be focused on recovery and rebuilding issues and I understand she needs things from the government for LA, but at what cost? To me, the cost will be to the next victims of Bush's ineptness/neglect because she isn't calling him out specifically for every single thing he needs to be called out on. As a result, the next victims will have to begin the battle all over again for themselves, with the exhausting battle of informing the public that this administration is so incredibly screwing the American people. This should've been a massive step in the right direction, and she seems to be becoming another block to growth, education to the public and lastly, success in helping the citizens of this country.

14. Agree. I know there is a fine line she treads about accepting |
|
responsibility or looking like a whiner for blaming others. Yet, she needs to explicitly tell everyone what she was missing from the federal government, backing up her statements with FEMA's own contracts that state what they Should have been doing for a state in crisis.
FEMA had legal (written) responsibilities that were not being carried out. It should be easy to get this info out! Everyone must start to fight Turdblossom from spinning this crisis anymore.

5. Apparently she talked in generalities and not in specific lists. Why |
|
Bush & HS tried to show her how to make a list of what she needed by getting up in public on days 3, 4, 5 of the hurricane and reading lists of things FEMA had sent. So she would get the hint.
That is pretty much what it boils down to. She wasn't playing by the "rule of lists" so they let her hang and didn't bother to cut through the communication problem.

9. There's a good quote in local LA paper from a Gov spokesperson |

saying that Brownie asking for "lists" was the doctor asking a bleeding patient, how do you want me to treat you?
Will look for link ...

16. Yes - I read that too. And if they were focussed on her style - what does |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 09:16 AM by applegrove
that say about them? In a time of crisis - you cut through to the truth. Especial if you were supposedly the most powerful man in the world. You don't enforce rules. Who prioritized rule making and a governor's weaknesses when there is so much to be done. Unless - you have no idea in what order humanity prioritizes.
Was the thinking that if she didn't give them lists they wouldn't be able to make speeches on lists?

6. Blanco pointed to herself and took responsibility |
|
for HER OWN shortcomings, not Bush's. She did what Bush will never do, she pointed to herself and said "The buck stops here." The timeline is out there, an investigation WILL be forthcoming, and Dems sure as hell (I hope) won't allow a whitewash. The facts speak for themselves. Bush blew it.

15. The thing to bear in mind with the Governor as well as the Mayor: |
|
Bush has EXTRAOARDINARY power to tighten the noose around New Orlean's neck (while bloviating his customary "compassionate" bullshit).
I think both should be cut much slack on this, and concentrate on what's shaping up to be the theme of this month: "Operation Enduring Photo-Op".
