The "private companies" will rebuild with OUR dollars |
|
This is lunacy. Bush tonight will call for private contractors to rebuild LA/MS/AL. He'll make it sound like we won't have to pay for it, the private sector will do it. The sheep will bleat, and buy it. But dammit, he'll be paying those private contractors (read: Unca Dick) with government money anyway. He's just shifting the books so the government has less control and his cronies make huge profits. Either way, the lying sack of shit will doubtless fail to inform the sheep that they're paying for it. As are their kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
I just wanna scream.

1. Actually, the statement is a foolish one! |
|
The Feds don't have construction crews, housing contractors, bull dozers, etc. No matter what the Feds do, other than the military, it's always done by "private contractors"!
WHY bother to even say that????

2. Perhaps Atman, like others of us, is thinking of something like the WPA. |

7. It isn't as foolish as it sounds. |

The government DOES have substantial construction capabilities. You're missing my point, and I admit maybe it isn't clear enough. It is about the shell game, to shift more money to Halliburton. This is an opportunity for Bush to spread the wealth around in ways which will help economies all across the nation, not just the one in the office down the hall. He'll tell us how the private sectore must step up to the plate, which will sound all well and good to many, without pointing out that he'll just be paying that private sector anyway. It will still come out of our pockets. The big difference is, instead of a massive public works project which will benefit many people in many states, it will be just another wealth shift to Dick "dick" Cheney, disguised as "private" sector help.

10. Of course that's what's happening! All I meant was that the |
|
statement "the private sector is going to rebuild the Gulf" is a foolish one, or perhapse better said, a misleading one.

such a great job rebuilding Iraq?
When will they be held accountable for wasting our tax dollars? They keep asking for more and more and no one seems to ask just where is it all going!

4. Read the Energy Bill, if you have not already. |
|
It's blatant. They give money for companies for "research," then the companies get to keep all of the profit that comes from the products and methods that come from that "research." On top of that bailouts to the airlines and other industries. I know that most Dems hate term welfare queen, but it fits Pukes, and their policies well.

8. EXACTLY -- the government is not in it for a profit |
|
As a result, we'll have to pay for Halliburton's profit margin as well as the cost of the rebuild.

9. That's been done for the Pharmaceutical cos. for years! |
|
The Feds gift billions of $$ to research faacilities, but when a miracle cure is found, the Co keeps all the profits, and doesn't even have to pay back the grant $$! Seems to me that both sides have no objections either!
I object to this practice in ALL businesses! Why can't out politicians?

5. Remember Baghdad: Day Zero? |
|
That's what he has in mind here....another Neocon wetdream of complete privatization...all Government does is provide the money ..actually OUR MONEY!
It's true that government doesn't actually build anything...almost all construction work is contracted out...but there are controls and oversight and regulations (Davis-Bacon is just one of them) Watch for government services being privatized...e.g. private sewer systems, water works, etc....
I'm very leary of what he has up his sleeve.....
