Imagine how you will celebrate a Democratic return to power.
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 12:21 PM by Heaven and Earth
However you define it (taking back House and Senate, Presidency, getting rid of machine voting, whatever).

For me, it would be in a big group of my fellow Democrats. First there would be lots of screaming and hugging, maybe some crying. Then the music would start, and we'd start dancing.

Where it gets tricky is the next day. Do I go for an uber-patriotic display to annoy those who don't consider me a patriot? or do I go concilitory?

How will you celebrate?

What will this site be like when Dems are actually in power? will the whole dynamic change, and to what?

6. Yep....And the really damn depressing thing is that after the......
....Democrats have brought everything back to the way it should be,
the Repugs will start with the old "Tax and Spend" liberal crap, the media will go along with it and the Dumb-Ass 51 percent will vote the Bastards back in power again....Go Figure...

4. Democrats return to power, but system is still corrupt
Politicians still in the pocket of corporations weather they are democrats or republicans. Maybe we can return to a bit of sanity and well thought out policies. I will rejoice for that, but I don't think things to get better with one election. It may just be a bit of slowdown in our slide into fascism and the vanishing of the middle class in america. I will remain a skeptic until proven otherwise.

5. I would have celebrated in 2004
It's different now, it'll be more like a hunker-down and get to work fast attitude. If we take congress in 06, I'll look forward to impeachment and it'll certainly be a good day, but I won't party. This is serious business.

Also keep in mind, the right is going to blame EVERYTHING on the Democrats if and when we retake power. It's going to be very difficult to repair all of Bush's fuck-ups in 2 or 4 years.

10. Got me thinking...a great Dem campaign strategy...
Something like what Ginghrich did with the Contract With America. A list of all the things Bush seriously messed up, with high-level plans to fix them. That pre-empts the Repub blame-game later because it puts the problems "on the record".

13. Absolutely
But the Repukes are very good at manipulating reality, and apparently they'll still have Rush to spread the lies. Again, why isn't he in jail yet?

12. I agree with
the Lot of Work to do crowd. First we would have to take time out and correct the last 8 years of damage and respectfully lay our dead and the iraqi dead to rest. Then we should have a Ceremony honoring quotes and phrases by our Liberal/Democrat majority. I especially would like to honor Theresa Heinz Kerry for her noble words during 2004.

15. First, an introduction...
My name is Orrie Bearshield. I live on the Pine Ridge reservation in S. Dakota, where I am an enrolled tribal member. I've lurked here for awhile, and recently registered and started posting.

How will I feel if the Democrats return to power? Suspicious. Wary. The plain but sad truth from the traditional native standpoint is that there has been no meaningful difference in policy or action between the Reps and the Dems. Will the democrats finally honor all the broken treaties? Return land that the Supreme Court itself says we have title to? Free our political prisoners? Your great liberator Bill Clinton promised all these things, and failed to follow through with a single one. We as traditional natives don't want your government. We have our own. We don't want a "piece of the American pie"...we have our own pie and we want it back.

Sorry, but I don't trust your culture, or any government that comes from it.

16. First, a welcome
Welcome to DU. Here you won't be dismissed or taken for granted or ignored or anything else.

I would enjoy a discussion of all the issues you raise.

Can I, personally do anything about them? I'm afraid not. But with Dems in office you have a much better chance of having your grievances addresed.

I don't trust my government either, which is why I'm try to be an active citizen and participant on DU.

Again, welcome aboard.

quisp
