1. Excellent story.
I have had republicans tell me how disappointed they have been with him, but nothing of this magnitude.

Just a warning, the freepers will be ridiculing you presently. They always allege that these stories are made up.

15. i keep going back to before election. i made such an ass of myself
literally yelling begging pleading for these people to see before it was too late. i think back to the fool i looked, wild eyed and crazy, see reason i would beg. hours and hours of conversations with people, friends. friends that dont talk to me anymore. as much because of my direct talk, lol, as i cant look at them now, without wanting to say jerk. i cant hang out with them.

if only......

to have one come to me now, and say you were right, doesnt make me feel quite the ass

24. my theory.
all the information was there for people to see and the ones that ignored or denied or put hands to ears and said na na na na nana so they couldnt hear will as a poster said, have blood on their hands. we had all the info we needed. this event is the obvious.

not to the people who dont believe in god, but in my thought god will whisper. then say. then yell. then knock you up side the head then, drop a brick on you. right now, we are only at the knocking upside the head

showing who bush is before the election. before putting a little check by his name. people chose to not see or hear or think. no one now gets away with, "if only we knew". i would have a much harder time with if i only knew then the flat out i was wrong, you were right

44. No, he hated Bush - didn't understand why others couldn't see
He talked about Bush's shortcomings to anyone who would listen, but was as frustrated as the rest of us by people's stupidity and blindness about Bush's "leadership" and "vision".

He just wished if a hurricane had to devastate people's lives, it would have happened in time to provide others with the view of Bush that we've had all along.

Yes. There's NO WAY they didn't know. They may have ignored. They may have chosen to put their fingers in their ears and yell LALALALALALALALA. And some of 'em may still be doing that. There is that 25 or 30 percent of hopeless cases who will NOT be reached, and whose souls CANNOT be saved. They're the chaff. The wheat, on the other hand, is growing.

40. "I just wish this sea change had been a year ago."
I wish you were right, but the whole reason Bush was safe last year was because they had Kerry to beat up on. After the election, I was saying, 'well at least now all of the attention will be back on Bush, and everyone will see how stupid they've been'.

If the election were this year, people would still be focusing on the Rove "Kerry bashing" talking points.

36. I agree
For anybody to admit they are wrong is a big step. I even don't like to admit I'm wrong, but I remember when I first found out the truth about everything I was in shock for a while and then turned to anger. Once you learn the truth though things really are different (for the better because you can know and how to change things) and you're no longer blind.

did he tell you the specifics of why? Was it because of the slow response in NO? Was that it? Or? There are just so many possibilities. 60. I Had A Guy Ask Me That At Lowes
We were at the big hardware chain, and the guy in front of me was talking to the checkout lady. She said she was retired military (i'm guessing her to be late 60's.)

The guy said to her "You should be over there in Iraq helping out those boys." Ex-mil lady says "Nah, i did my time, and besides the last thing i'd be willing to do would be in Iraq. We don't belong over there."

So, the guy in front of me says, "Yeah, that's another whole screw up by the gang that can't shoot straight."

I chimed in, "Yeah these idiots could get lost in a phone booth."

So we start talking and the other customer says to me, "How did that guy get elected? I don't know anyone who voted for him. I don't know anyone who doesn't hate him." I replied "Same here." (That's a little lie because i know my mom voted for Silverspoon.)

Now the lady behind the register REALLY goes off. "They're all crooks. People got so worked up over Clinton having an affair, but we've got crooks and liars in the gov't now!", and so on.

By the time we're done, two other guys have joined in, and suddenly it's a Bush-bash festival in the check out line at Lowes.

Thought that was pretty cool.
The Professor

Since the hurrican I have been letting loose left and right about how the Election 2004 was stolen. I believed it had been by 11/3/04 and put a sign on my office door with the red hand "Stop Election Fraud" -- but I did not speak out persistently and forcefully until now. Now I will not keep quiet:

* WAS NOT LEGALLY ELECTED SO LET'S GET HIM OUT OF THERE NOW!
NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW!

but man, i had a tough time with my husband voting for bush in 2000. by 2003 i was mostly in rants with him on the damn repugs and the stupid ass bush all the time. our saving grace was he doing his own research so he could stay up with me. my midland texas repug male then got disgusted with his party and bush, voted kerry in 2004 and refuses to be called a repug ever again. dont know if he will ever vote repug

at this point in our nation, i dont think i could have a bush supporting man. told husband once, this isnt about me,.....it is about OUR children and THEIR future. no one messes with my babies.

No one messes with my babies either. That is why I have been a Dem all of my life because I know they care more about the future of this country than the Repubs. Repubs care about themselves and about how things are going to affect their party. That is what I keep telling my Repub brother, the country is more important than your party and the country is more important than your pResident.

50. I hesitate to mention this and I hope I'm wrong but I think a
significant number of Repugs will only admit that W is a boob NOT THE REPUG PARTY OR THE POLICIES THAT GOT US HERE

Kind of like the Nixon phenomenon where pretty much everyone despised him at the end but they still went on voting repug

I'm happy for you but in future conversations with your neighbor stress the policies that got us here

54. you are right. i agree. i have to now take it further
and an indictment against the whole of repug and give examples. at least now, he is more open to listening. seeing how he has no kids and never will, will be an eye opener to share how his greediness will effect the future of my children. just another angle he doesn't have a clue on. being a business owner myself, and on his economic level, i can go all around him on this too.

55. the rest of my repugs that i fought with prior to election dont talk
politics with me and havent since election. we told all, my house was no talk politics zone. i wont listen and i wont be responsible in controlling my anger if they bring up the subject. all my men, two brothers and father, in laws have all kept mouth shut. so i dont know where they are at.

my brother did mention gas gouging. he does pipelines and makes butt load of money. for him to veer that much off, leaves me to wonder. but unless you are firmly in the he was wrong, i am right camp...... i dont want to hear it

68. hey, keep laughing- you've got a great attitude.
I have the comfort of being surrounded by largely like-minded people. If I had to stare at a Bush-Cheney sign in my neighbor's window (no lawns here- rowhouses) I would probably be sneaking out in the dead of night to lay dogshit on their door step. For real.

69. My one RW friend used to say * is a visionary
and would someday be known as the best president EVER. (GAG!!)

I sent him hundreds and hundreds of articles clearly showing what a criminal incompetent * was, but he ALWAYS said these were liberal lies from the liberal media. But, to his credit, he said that if some of them were true (such as 9/11 complicity), * & Co. should all go to jail. But with a year and a half of me trying to convince him, it was all to no avail. He still adored *.

Then after Katrina, he left me a voicemail saying that * really blew it on this one, that * shoulders all the blame, and that he was really disappointed. It took a lot of courage for my friend to say this.

Now, I don't know if he has completely turned around--after all, he still supports most * policies. But I bet he's thinking long and hard about all this.

71. what appears to be happening with iraq and katrina
they are isolating these two events to diss bush. they can speak a little truth. but still they are in protective mode. they have to understand, these are just more and more clear pictures of incompetence. but...... the incompetence is thru out administration and there IS visual stories to tell.

this is 5 yrs of lies, incompetence and greeed. we have proof

now they will be more open to the small examples thru out administration of exact, the same, incompetence

like a bathroom not. like not being able to button shirt. like doesnt know how to talk.

the smallest, to the medium to the hugest or hughest

73. what is the alternative to welcoming people who admit they were wrong??
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 10:09 AM by Douglas Carpenter
I loved your story and lots of them are coming out these days.

I cannot for the life of me understand anyone not welcoming the news that the scales are falling from peoples eyes.

I suppose we could all burn and seethe with hatred toward the 60% plus Americans who supported Bush in March 2003. But, I fail to see what good that would do.

If progressive political work is not about helping people change their minds, what on earth are we waisting our time for?

People who do not welcome Republicans changing their mind are useless to the progressive movement.

77. overheard in the heart of Bush/Cheney country
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 10:38 AM by sheeptramp
At the Livestock Sale Yard in Caldwell, Idaho,
last weekend, I overheard a conversation between 2 young cowboy-hatted sheep buyers:

"Do you like President Bush?"
"No. (pause) He's an idiot".
"Yeah. (pause) I guess he's an idiot. Thats about right."

79. I was going to suggest bringing by some crow pie for the repug neighbor
Believe or not there are recipes for crow pie. Google it and you'll find a host of them. I say you can safely improvise with something else. I saw this recipe for Swedish (Remember * confusing Sweden with Switzerland?) Meat Pies and thought this might be a good substitute.
Plus this recipe is unlikely to stink up your house unlike the Crow Pie recipes I found.
