I was emailing with my sister and mentioned the whole "bathroom break" photo thing. She said, "So the guy needs to go to the bathroom, what's the matter with that?"
It's not the needing a bathroom break part that's funny. In fact, I sympathize deeply with that element of the story. Many's the time I have been at some presentation or meeting or something and been in the same predicament. The difference between me and GWB is that instead of asking for advice about what to do, I look around, consider the options, and develop a plan to deal with the situation, without consulting anyone.
Which, you know, you'd think he would be able to do too, being the POTUS. But no, he's asking Condi for advice.
Then there is the fact that the one time someone actually catches Bush using the written word, it's this. I guess the silver lining is that we now know he's literate.

1. The only things that bother |
|
me about the note, is that he is asking the SECRETARY OF STATE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA if he can have a bathroom break. Couldn't he have motioned for an aide?
Also....
how much attention was he paying to what was going on in the session? My guess is NONE....he was there only as a warm body and nothing else mattered to him.

6. Come on, like there's anything more important for Condi to be doing! |
|
It does tell you something about their relationship, though. Not sure what it is, exactly. Is she his mommy? Or what?

the "Let freedom reign!" note.
Somebody still got that one? A handwriting comparison could be quite interesting.

3. He hasn't made a decision since he entered politics. He's just a front |
|
man for some really BAAADDD people. So the fact that he can't decide for himself what to do when he has to take a whizz is not surprising.

4. Well seriously speaking.... |
|
he can't just get up and leave being the president and all that.
He'd need to go between speeches so it wouldn't look like he was walking out on someone. And of course the SS would have to go with him so it would be quite a visible exit.
Presumably he's notifying everyone about the situation ahead of time.

14. Classroom wasn't the UN |
|
He wouldn't have been causing an international incident by leaving in the middle of a speech there. And I doubt you'd want him to announce where he was going to the entire UN.

I think he can go to the bathroom without asking anyone's permission. If he needs guidance on this small detail then God help us all.

|
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 01:13 PM by Marr
This is the most common arc:
1. "That's a fake. No way did he write that."
2. I show them the Reuter's link and explain who the photographer was.
3. "So he has to go pee. Big deal."

15. The sad part of this is he has spoken in front of the UN so little |
|
that he doesn't know the protocol of leaving during a session. No one coached him on this apparently.
He was finally in a situation where he wasn't the most important being in the room.

I assume he was asking her because as Sec of State she'd know the protocol. The second line looks like 'is this possible'

18. It never occurred to me |
|
until I read this thread that getting up and leaving is probably considered "walking out."
I've heard about this our that ambassador "walking out" during a session and it's a big hoo-haa.
Now, how do we know he had to pee? There are OTHER things one does in the bathroom and sometimes the need can be quite urgent.

19. That was my take on this note |
|
It is really sad, since this is his second term and the UN is in New York.
I don't feel sorry for him, but the reality of his lack of readiness for this situation is apparent.
