Karl Rove in charge of $200 billion post-Katrina reconstruction effort
Karl Rove in charge of $200 billion post-Katrina reconstruction effort

In a primetime speech tonight from the flood zone, pResident Bush will commit the federal government to what many predict will become the largest reconstruction effort ever on U.S. soil. Republicans said Karl Rove, the White House deputy chief of staff and Bush's chief political adviser, is in charge of the $200 billion reconstruction effort.

3. Our constitution puts a political advisor in charge of the purse strings?
Somehow, that's not how I remember it. I thought it was Congress that was supposed to control this stuff. You know -- to help prevent tax dollars from being disbursed in exchanged for political favors. Theoretically, anyway.

Can they possibly GET more blatant?

7. BOYCOTT THE SPEECH
Whatever you do, don't watch the speech tonight. I don't know if comcast can track our TV-watching behavior via our cable connection, but make sure the TV is never turned to any major TV station or cable news station during that speech.

Make it so that tomorrow's news is the POOR RATINGS of the Bush speech.

Please.

This is all we can do to fight back against these foul criminals.

12. Well, that's a given.
The only way I would watch it would be if I could be guaranteed that in the middle of the speech, Fitzgerald would approach the platform and slap cuffs on that sociopath.

9. Rove's way: Press BIG dollars into a few black hands and pump it as aid
to the community with lots of media photo ops...then proceed to funnel the biggest chunks to the same old war and disaster profiteers which no broadcast media will discuss.

15. What on earth does Rove know about reconstruction?
This is insane.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/blog/2005/09/15/BL2005091501098.html

Rove's leadership role suggests quite strikingly that any and all White House decisions and pronouncements regarding the recovery from the storm are being made with their political consequences as the primary consideration. More specifically: With an eye toward increasing the likelihood of Republican political victories in the future, pursuing long-cherished conservative goals, and bolstering Bush's image.

That is Rove's hallmark.

Rove, Bush's long-time political adviser and the "architect" of Bush's ascendancy, was rewarded after the 2004 election with a position at the White House with overt policy responsibilities. But whereas in some previous White Houses, governance took precedence over campaigning once the election was safely over, Rove has shown no sign of ever putting policy goals above political ones.

With an eye toward increasing the likelihood of Republican political victories in the future...

Disaster relief is going to be based on the needs of the GOP to avoid anyone noticing that GOP rule has been an unprecedented disaster. What ever happened to accountability and fiscal and personal responsibility? This is going to be hard work. Stay the course. Whatever it takes. Mission accomplished. Guess they'll just float NOLA on slogans.

16. This nightmare keeps getting worse! What about the pending indictment?
Won't the administration look foolish in a few weeks when Karl is indicted? Or, have they halted the grand jury investigation somehow?

I just want to wake up from this bad dream and get my country back!

17. Here is what happened with that:
House GOP Derails Democratic Inquiries on Downing St., Plame Documents 14 Sep 2005 House Republicans derailed Democratic attempts on Wednesday to force the Bush regime to surrender documents on prewar intelligence and the disclosure of the identity of a CIA operative. Democrats have introduced several "resolutions of inquiry" to compel Dictator Bush and members of his Cabinet to release all information relating to communications with British officials before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and the Valerie Plame case.
