What are onesies? There's a citywide baby shower for evacuees

of Katrina and they're asking for donations of, among other things, "onesies". What on God's green earth are onesies?

on edit: Now that you guys have reminded me of these things, I remember that I have a 50 year old pair of mine that my mother saved until she died.

Thanks to all who responded!

1. There are like one piece undershirts which snap between the baby's legs.
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 05:21 PM by Pirate Smile
edit to add - they look like this

Babies can wear them alone when it is hot out or they wear them under their clothes when it gets colder.

9. Thanks for the image
I remember fastening hundreds of them on younger siblings. Just didn't know what they were called.

3. They are baby outfits that are one-piece.
They typically have snaps down by the legs and crotch, so you can open them up to change diapers, without taking the whole thing off.

You can get them in multi-packs, usually cheap.

The best thing for babies!

4. They are really inexpensive too
You should be able to pick up a pack of them at any sort of a variety store like Target. They come 2 or 3 to a pack, depending on the brand. Should run about $5 or $6.

6. Onesies
It is a little tee shirt type outfit that snaps between the legs of the baby. It is very comfy and my kids lived in them when they were babies.

8. Get cute ones
Ones with the little ducks are especially cute and can be used for both sexes.
Don't just get plain ones.:silly:

14. Cute ones are nice
but plain white ones can be bleached if needed. Ah I remember those days with my own little ones.

and advertising on the evening news several times every night.

My partner teaches and 1/2 of his students have relatives from the coast staying with them so we have a pretty sserious number of evacuees.

It is a really cool idea. I'm not sure what I'll take yet but the "onesies" sound good...

19. Towels and washclothes are good, non-skid socks
regular undershirts, pull on pants (neutral colors), baby hats, baby sunscreen, baby bathtubs. If you get something like socks, get multiple pairs that are all the same color, so if they lose some, they can still make pairs. Booties. Pacifiers, baby powder, Desenex, and baby wipes. I think formula is good too; it's expensive so is probably appreciated.

23. Here's the info you asked for about the baby shower for evacuees...
They need everything imaginable. Address is:

Christ United Methodist Church
5301 Old Canton Road
Jackson, MS 39211

The lady who passed along the address, Barbie Bassett, is our local long-time weatherperson and is 6 months pregnant with her second child so she is really working hard for this. She's a real sweetheart..

Thanks for any help you can give.

15. My first baby gift
I am expecting my first baby - the first gift I received was a package of onesies. I citywide shower for the victims of the hurricane sounds like a really nice idea.

21. Organic onesies!!
check out http://www.gaiam.com (was 7th generation) for organic onesies. These little babies have been exposed to enough already - they don't need the formaldehyde that is in the regular onesies they sell.
They are pricey but a real gift for babies whose skin is already irritated.

24. Ah, onesies.
Those were the days.

Wistful sigh.

There is nothing in the world like a freshly bathed baby dressed in a clean diaper and a onesie. You just want to eat them.

Then when they're older, you wish you had.

27. I vote for onesies with words... "Bush makes me cry" or
"Bush makes me poop" are available on Cafepress, along with many others. Either would be a fine addition to a little baby's wardrobe. ;)
