Nixon was always talking about how the president set the moral tone of the country. And then the Watergate tapes revealed that he swore A LOT in the Oval Office.

IMO, that discovery shocked his base and cost him their support; therefore republican congress people felt free to withdraw their support.

That's why I think it might be a little (to many of us here) thing that will make W's base turn on him. I don't know what it will be, but if and when it happens I think many of us will be surprised.

personal note...

My dad took me to see Nixon in 1952; he spoke in Tulsa at the Skelly stadium. In 1960 I went with friends from college to hear JFK speek in a convention center (?) in Houston. That same campaign we attended a republican rally at a local park; one of the group had a JFK sign. We were told to go back to Russia.

another note

MLKing spoke in Tulsa in the summer of 1960. I was able to go with a colleague of my dad's who was in the NAACP; the 6 in our group were the only whites there. The meeting was held in the black Baptist church in north Tulsa, the only building in town large enough that they were able to use. (The larger buildiings in 'white' Tulsa were not available.)

2. Well, it won't be the bathroom note
But you're right, whatever finally makes the public see Bush as he is may be a small thing, and it will probably be something we've seen all along.
