Hurricane Ophelia vs Katrina |
|
On Anderson Cooper they are talking about the FEMA response to the Carolinas for Ophelia. They have called out the National Guard and FEMA is already there. Of course, that area is a beach community, big beach houses, and money. And I dare say few poor minorities. Amazing...the excuse for the quick response is that they learned a lesson in Katrina. I am not so sure...

1. Big beach houses on the outer banks. |
|
But you go inland, past the sound, and you see alot of old trailers. The sound floods too.

2. They have not mentioned them on the news. |

The Cooper piece focused on the beach.
I do hope a lesson is learned, but at this point I am a little too jaded to think that is the case.

3. There are actually quite a few poor coastal communities |
|
and poor communities inland (like Little Washington) that were affected by this storm. I'm certainly not trying to justify Shrubs quick response, I think that had more to do with covering his ass than helping wealthy communities, I'm just saying 1) the rich aren't the only ones living along the Carolina coast 2) there are quite a few minorities living in the affected areas and 3) (hold on to your hat) not all poor folks are minorities.

Manteo and Wanchese and a host of other Coastal Carolina communities are by no means wealthy.
