Potential Republican presidential candidates...
who will distance themselves from Bush's social spending in New Orleans and who will align themselves with his proposals? It will be interesting to watch.

Also curious to see how Republicans running for midterm elections will respond to all this.

1. Lindsay Graham and Chuck Hagel
McCain has gone too far over to the looney bin to be viable...

2. Hagel.
Hagel's very much a fiscal conservative and already disagrees with Bush on the war (sort of).

I wouldn't be surprised to see him run as the anti-Bush in '08, particularly if any of this wind becomes reality.

4. I think Hagel runs if
McCain doesn't run.

I think McCain does run and loses to Hillary in a not very close election.

8. My opinion
(and I've been wrong many a time) is that the minute Hillary announces her run, the press will cancel all programming and go on a 24 hour Hillary watch informing us of her lunch menu and the like. At that point the primary will be over as it will be impossible for any other candidate to get a minute's press.

Most voters will not even know any other D is running against Hillary. It will be that over.

That's my prediction and I'll stick to it until it turns out wrong.

3. Now he has given all the country reasons to distrust him, even the
ones who don't have a clue.

7. McCain, unfortunately.
I know a previous poster talked about him being in the looney bin but I think he's a SERIOUS contenders among the Bushistas.

They like his "straight-talkin" PLUS he's a POW.
