We've just been through a second major destructive hurricane, the Gulf devastation is worse than anyone could have imagined, China is sucking up oil faster than Bush at an open bar, Bush just announced the most expensive rebuilding plan in history, hell is sending thousands of handbaskets for us to ride in...
And the price of gasoline has dropped 25 cents in two days, just in time for Bush's speech.
Thanks to Exxon/Rovil!

2. At The Height Of The Furor Over *'s Handling Of Katrina...... |

with his poll numbers going down, with the war escalating into a civil war, with gas prices going over $3.00 and with many Americans that voted for him second guessing themselves - I said that the quickest way to difuse much of this is to lower the gas prices. I predicted that they would begin to come down and they are. In the Chicago area I saw $2.77/gal from a high of $3.14 about a week ago (gal of regular). I believe that Rove thinks that they need to come down to around the $2.50/gal level to take the heat off.
All the negatives about the war, katrina damage, etc will begin to go away - when the American people can see the gas prices go down.
So I don't believe the talk about Peak Oil or refining capacity or damage to the rigs in the Gulf - it's all contrived, they are gouging us and they can turn it on and off at will.
Oil people are running this government - what did you expect?

It dropped from $3.50 to $3 the day after Labor Day, and has been creeping downwards to $2.84 since. No 25-Cent drops here...

4. Dropped 40 cents in CT. |

And now on the teevee news, the main story every news break is AAA announcing a dramatic drop in gas prices. The president turned liberal last night, Mississippi is still under water and getting little help, hundreds killed in Iraq the last two days...and the main story is fucking gas prices.
Fill 'er up with some hi-test Rove.

That's why the yoyo effect. They raise it up .50, everyone screams, they lower it .25 and everyone is just happy for some relief. Wait a week, raise it .50, everyone screams, they lower it again by .25 and everyone again is happy for some relief...never mind the fact that the relief you get this week is the price you were screaming about last week. It's just a game. All of it is.
