Re: missing children of Katrina, WHY were the children and parents
evacuated separately in the first place? This question has been going through my mind all day today. I know, it's children first, but look at the separate disaster they have created..financially, emotionally....Wouldn't that be a NO brainer?? keeping children with mom and/or dad?

1. First you separate them. Then...
when you reunite them, they are so happy and relieved that their anger over being abandoned is lessened.

2. And men were separated from their families also.
It all comes down to the bus issue; not enough when they were needed and where they were needed.

3. Some parents at the Super dome
after waiting endlessly for buses, passed their babies over the crowd to rescue workers so they would get to safety quicker...

There are probably many reasons for this.

this is going to cause a lot of trauma for a lot of people.

4. heard a story
Where a woman put her child on the bus, turned around to pick up suitcases, turned around again to get on the bus and it had left.

Another story where Helicopter showed up, said we can only take the kids (not even 1 parent was allowed on the helicopter) and helicopter promised to come right back.

The kids were unloaded and the helicopter didn't return for the adults so the kids wandered alone.

Another story is where a guy is resucing people, saves a kid but the adults in the house are dead.

Also some of the vague descriptions of the kids makes me wonder if it isn't non parental relatives reporting missing kids, i.e. my sister and her 3 kids are missing. Here is a description and the 3 kids appear as missing children.

If that is the case then it would be better to report who reported the children missing (a parent or not) so we would know if these are kids seperated from parents or missing with parents.

Obviously both are important, but it is misleading to report a child missing when it is the family.
