CNN online poll: raising taxes to pay for Gulf reconstruction |
|
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 01:31 PM by Charlie Brown
www.cnn.com It's at the bottom right corner.
Do you think the federal gov't should raise taxes to pay for the reconstruction of NO and other areas of the Gulf Coast?

I think their polls are done by a six year old.

I propose a 40% tax on Halliburton, Bechtel, Tyco, WalMart, AT&T, Clear Channel, and whatever's left of Enron and Arthur Andersen.

The degree to which they benefit from being government insiders, they should be taxed.
It'd be amazing how quickly crony profiteering would vanish.

7. Nope. I know I'll get flamed for this, but I'd rather see |
|
spending cut. I am not one of those who wants to see tax increases on someone just because they make shitloads more than I do, I view tax increases as a LAST resort.
Everyone who pays taxes in this country is being screwed, considering the government we get. Nobody should have to pay more until waste is eliminated. Just eliminating military pork alone could pay for a lot of the cost, not to mention getting the hell out of Iraq.
Raising taxes is nothing I can or will ever support without eliminating waste first.

11. The reason taxpayers are getting screwed is that the rich and corporations |
|
are not paying their proportionate share of taxes, or any at all.
The rich and corporations should be shouldering most of the costs, especially for the governmental services they tend to be the big users of: Coast Guard (most yatch owners are not poor working stiffs) military (it aint protecting the middle class or the poor!) airports and air safety, roadways, railways, so on.

corporations just pass the costs on to us in the form of higher prices. The REAL reason taxpayers are currently being screwed is that a group of inbred dildoes are in charge. If this were Clinton's fourth term I might be trusting enough to say "go ahead," but not under current "management." There is no reason to trust B*sh with any more revenue than he already has.

8. Regardless of the answer, they are raising taxes |
|
Either on this generation (if yes) or on the next (if no). Future generations are really going to despise our generation (in general) for passing on our debts to then.
