Cheney to Have Surgery

By Mary Ann Akers
Roll Call Staff

Friday, Sep. 16; 05:08pm

Vice President Cheney is scheduled to undergo surgery next weekend to treat an aneurysm in his leg, his spokesman confirmed to Roll Call today.

“The vice president is slated to have an elective surgical procedure to treat an aneurysm in the artery behind the right knee that was discovered earlier this year during a routine checkup,” spokesman Steve Schmidt said.

“It is a condition that needs to be addressed so as not to become a problem over time,” said Schmidt, who declined to say at which hospital the surgery will be performed.

Schmidt said the procedure will be performed with local anesthesia and will involve “a short hospital stay.”

“The vice president will return to work shortly thereafter,” Schmidt said. “More details on the procedure will be made available next week.”

“The vice president will return to work shortly thereafter,” Schmidt said.

5. It's probably more than that. He looks like shit these days,
bloated as hell. They are just making it sound like it's nothing serious but while at the hospital he will probably have other procedures.

28. Are you kidding? Do you think they've give him any better brain?
He'd be worse than he is now.

I hope he does well, only because Dennis Hastert is next in line if something happens to Cheney--and then Condi--YIKES!

from http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0101032.html:

Prior to the ratification of the 25th Amendment in 1967, there was no provision for filling a vacancy in the vice presidency. When a president died in office, the vice president succeeded him, and the vice presidency then remained vacant. The first vice president to take office under the new procedure was Gerald Ford, who was nominated by Nixon on Oct. 12, 1973, and confirmed by Congress the following Dec. 6.

The Vice President Richard Cheney
Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert
President pro tempore of the Senate1 Ted Stevens
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
Secretary of the Treasury John Snow
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales
Secretary of the Interior Gale A. Norton
Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns
Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez2
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao3
Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson
Secretary of Transportation Norman Yoshio Mineta
Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman
Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson
Secretary of Homeland Security4 Michael Chertoff

8. thin spot in a blood vessel
causing protrusion and possible eruption. when it happens in the brain it causes stroke, in the heart, death. it can lead to blood clots too, which can be deadly if they go to the heart, lungs or brain.

i hate that he makes me think of delicious ways he could die! bastard!

I know the feeling, but we have to be better than the sob's. If we stoop to thier election stealling, hate mongering, red blue seperating level, than the world is really screwed. Just think we really are thin blue line.

10. It is a ruptured blood vessel.
Most of the time when you hear about them on the news, etc.. it occurs in the brain and kills the unlucky recipient.

But a nurse...
It really depends on where the aneurysm is--heart, lung, brain...you're pretty much fucked.
His is a popliteal aneurysm. They basically clot off the artery. Sometimes they will just watch them and remove them if they start to grow.

However, with the way Cheney looks and his heart history, something else is up or else it has hit critical mass.

17. I can envision KKKarl Roves official press release...
"The vice president's discomfort from this condition has been the source of his ugly, hideous, evil "affect" over the past several years. Upon discharge, we can expect to see the happy, lovable, compassionate man we all came to know and love during his Halliburton salad days. You probably don't remember this version of Mr. Cheney, but trust me: he'll be chipper, and most eager to lend a helping hand to those poor folks...in those states down there..."

Cheney visits doctor in Vail for old knee injury

VAIL, Colo. (AP) -- Vice President Dick Cheney visited a renowned orthopedist Friday while in town for a forum held by a conservative think tank, his spokeswoman said.

Cheney had an appointment to meet with Dr. Richard Steadman to evaluate an old football injury to his knee, Cheney spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride said. Cheney played football in high school in Wyoming.
