KATRINA RELIEF: LIST YOUR DEMANDS TO CONGRESS HERE
We're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore!!!!

Please contribute to this list, then start firing off letters to Congress! They need to be reminded about who they work for! :grr:

1. An independent non-partisan commission, and I mean INDEPENDENT, must be undertaken to investigate all the problems in relief efforts related to Katrina at all levels of government. This commission must be tasked to also observe changes undertaken to improve disaster relief efforts and periodically provide updates to the public without any government filtering of information.

2. Money for all reconstruction in states affected by Hurricane Katrina must be carefully documented by the GAO, and posted at a publicly-accessible website. These numbers must come directly from the GAO, not filtered through the White House.

3. Finance reconstruction by repealing the tax cuts to the richest citizens of this country -- make them pay their fair share! Keep the inheritance tax; raise the cut-off for net wealth slightly if you must, but don't eliminate it!

4. All reconstruction in states affected by Katrina must be done by local residents to empower and employ them.

5. Companies and/or their subsidiaries registered off-shore that do not pay taxes in the US should be barred from getting contracts for rebuilding in states affected by Katrina.

6. It is the responsibilty of the government to care for its citizens in times of crisis. Government relief organizations and private companies accepting government funding must be completely overhauled to meet this goal ASAP. Updates about these efforts must be publicly posted so that citizens can monitor its progress.

7. Recognize the deep bond between many people and their pets. Allow animals to accompany their owners during federal, state, and local rescue efforts. Change national policy to allow animals to accompany their owners to shelters. This can be done successfully without bothering others that may be allergic to dogs or cats, or dislike animals! (It's being implemented in the Nassau Co. NY Red Cross shelter, and there is a petition to the Red Cross to make it national at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/750226838?ltl=1126812519)

Please add to the list ......

1. To add
I would like, to go along with the INDEPENDENT investigation commission, reasoning on why no-bid contracts were put in place before any WH official ever hit the ground.

I also want to know who supports and will take the effort to repeal the Davis-Bacon act, in order to pay prevailing wages to those working on reconstruction projects in the area.

The individual volunteers are working on this from within.

BTW- I got injured inside a house (while the fire fighters were doing "overhaul") when a fire captain and I went looking for a displaced occupants missing cat. Generally, most of us Red Cross volunteers work with the Fire Fighters (who are America's greatest) to find pets.

6. The first thing I would DEMAND of Congre$$ional Chri$tian$ is to
Heed the words of that Jesus fellow, who said that the works which are needed on this Blessed Earth are for people to:

Feed the hungry
Clothe the naked
Visit the sick
Comfort the dying and
Bury the dead.

ALL OF WHICH HAVE BEEN ROUNDLY IGNORED IN NEW ORLEANS!

Remember New Orleans
