Can anybody find out about the Landrieu family and Bechtel (Relations)
Edited on Fri Sep-16-05 11:06 PM by ...of J.Temperance
I'm asking this because. Moon Landrieu's mother, her name was Loretta Bechtel, who's father was August Bechtel. The SAME spelling as the company Bechtel. The Bechtel's I think are buried in Carrollton Cemetery in Orleans Parish. Oh there's an Emma Bechtel buried in Lafayette Cemetery, the Cities of The Dead.

So, are the Landrieu's connected to the company Bechtel...or are they no relation? Can anybody find this out, because it's something I've ALWAYS been curious about.

By the way, this isn't a slam on the Landrieu family, because I've ALWAYS liked them and I know that they're GOOD people.

Yes, buried in Carrollton Cemetery, here's all I could find, it's a lot listing for Carrollton.

Start at "New Plan #1 Map Page 5..." and scroll down to Lot # 27:

"A.R. Bechtel" the first name being "Mary Rocker Bechtel" then you get various Bechtel's and Landrieu's (Loretta Bechtel Landrieu was Senator Landrieu's Grandmother):

I know Bechtel are based in California. But so are Tenet Healthcare, they're based in Santa Monica and their CEO or perhaps ex-CEO is/was Phyllis Landrieu.

I just think Bechtel is an unusual surname, so I've always thought that they're was a Landrieu connection. This could be an interesting mystery to solve, if there are any would-be Sherlock's out there.

4. Tenet Healthcare has not been based in Santa Monica for well..
over a year. It is based out of Dallas. The CEO is Trevor Fetter. Before that the founding CEO was Jeffery Barbakow. A Landrieu has never been part of the company.

2. Why would you say it's a slam to have the name Bechtel?
"By the way, this isn't a slam on the Landrieu family, because I've ALWAYS liked them and I know that they're GOOD people."

However you feel about the company, it's history is the "American
Dream" become reality.

1898, a nearly bankrupt 25 yr. old Warren A. Bechtel left Peabody, Kansas to Oklahoma Territory with his wife Clara. He operated a mule-drawn sled used in railroad grading. With their children, Warren Jr. & Steven, headed for Oregon at the turn of the century where W.A. became the gang foreman for the South Pacific. In 1902, out of work and money, he met A.J. Barkley a manager for South Pacific who hired him because of his abilities to learn all aspects of a job and "seemed a natural engineer." Ken, their youngest, was born there.

He rented a Model 20 Marion steam shovel and by 1909 owned it outright painting W.A. Bechtel Co. on the side which was the start of putting technology to work and investing in heavy machinery. He worked in the construction of the early railroad lines in the Pacific Northwest. He earned the money that started the company, no one gave it to him. His sons followed in his footsteps with enthusiasm for construction, in 1925 incorporated with his sons and brother Art, W.A. Bechtel Co. was the largest and most respected construction firms in the west.

In Time Magazine, "The Builders and Titans" the most influential business geniuses of the Century, along with Ford, Disney, Gates, Walton, is Bechtel. They have always built LARGE scale projects. Over those 100 years Bechtel has been the #1 engineering contractor, and the most successful family owned construction business.

There are some projects known here at DU, and yes they have some notoriety, but looking at the big picture, Hoover Dam, San Francisco Bay Bridge, BART, Channel Tunnel, Hong Kong Airport, to name a few they have employed thousands of Americans and brought together workers of many nations on projects of enormous undertakings.

In my opinion, they are Great people to work for and are highly respected around the world.

I didn't see Loretta name mentioned in any of the books, sorry.

3. Well you know, because of the feeling against Bechtel
So, no Loretta Bechtel or August Bechtel.

Okay thanks for taking the time ;)
