Enjoy, you have no idea how good it is.

Chavez:

I've been in revolt for years against ignominy, against injustice, against inequality, against immorality, against the exploitation of human beings.

One of the greatest rebels, who I really admire: Christ. He was a rebel. He ended up being crucified. He was a great rebel. He rebelled against the established power that subjugated. That is what rebellion is; it's rebellion out of love for human beings. In truth, that is the cause, the cause of love: love for every human being, for every women, for every child, for every man, for every brother.

I believe you to be a brother. I don't see you as above or below. I don't feel superior or inferior to you. We're on an equal basis. Your cameraman, your photograph are equal. The men and women who are seeing you, who are seeing us are equal. They're true brothers.

(snip)

We love the people of the United States, and our desire is to have a world of brothers in peace. God grant that that be the case.

3. Slick, that kinda sounds degrading.
He is a kind hearted and brilliant man.

He answered Koppel quickly and honestly, slick has too many negative, criminal, and racist connotations.

7. "Slick" is a bad choice of words.
Edited on Sat Sep-17-05 02:17 AM by Spider Jerusalem
Chavez is quite obviously a very skilled and astute politician. He's gone before the American people, so to say, and given them his hand in friendship, essentially. At least, that's what's on the surface. There's steel beneath the friendly words, though; he's also saying "don't fuck with me, Mr Bush. I won't be intimidated. I am not your dog, to be called to heel or be cowed into submission. Treat with me as an equal and stay out of my backyard, and all will be well." And the humanitarian aid to hurricane victims...well, that only helps his image, which has been damaged by several years' worth of rather biased reporting in US news media. As I said, an astute politician...whom some will call "slick" (like they did Clinton, remember).

15. I think it was in the "enlightenment primer," wasn't it?
If you slimy and democratic you must be "slick" and it's an insult.
If you adhere to the hypocritic oath, you are "teflon-coated" and it is a term of respect and honor.
I have (after reading driftglass' blog) altered my stance as to how I view those unfortunates bowing to the theofascist's grip on the former land of the free and brave, to wit:
Previously, I regarded them with a curious mixture of disgust, contempt, and a bit of dark horror tinged awe, followed up by a degree of hate and anger.
Now it's more like all the above- substituting for anger and hate-pity.

12. Why do some people in the US distrust someone who speaks the...
truth, as Chavez does, and yet trusts this administration that has done everything but speak the truth, including deceiving us into a war. I think calling Chavez 'slick' is a put down and meant to be a put down.

13. My Sentiments also
Chavez is a great example of what an American leader should be like. If chimpy were a quarter of who Chavez is he would have Continued to decline the poverty level Clinton started. Chimpy has the resources and there is no damn excuse for poverty in the U.S. But Since chimps is a devout born again American idiot he can only help his Rich kind.

As for being slick thats when you tell your own destroyed city you Take Responsibility for being late with Food and Clean water but you dont apologize directly to the people.

16. What's the solution?
The obvious disconnect -particularly in the reporting media-between the requirements for being even-handed and the execution thereof seems daunting.
It strikes me that the practice of setting up two "opposing" viewpoints and having them fight it out, while encouraging lies instead of being responsible for knowing the truth and calling people on their shit is the source of many of the woes surrounding the leadership in this...whatever it is, now. There is no consequence for misleading and out-and-out prevarication.
How do we rout the dispensers of such fare?

He's going to meet w/Jesse Jackson while in NY.

Great interview.

Thanks Melodybe for taking the time to post. I planned all day to see the interview but got sidetracked.

Again thanks.:hi:

20. I was never too sure of Chavez before reading this
I never knew what to make of the man and while I'm not sure about these invasion plans, until we know more, he strikes me as an honest man.

The one country he did not mention, and I wish he would...was North Korea. I would like to know his position in regards to that country.

He's honest and plain-spoken. I like that. I don't feel like I'm being led around by the nose.

What impressed me more than anything is how much he has given to help the survivors of Katrina and what more he is willing to do.

Chavez has my respect.
