A C-SPAN caller made a thought-provoking comment.... |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-17-05 11:07 AM by kentuck
this morning on Pedro's show. She said that "conservatives" always asked others to sacrifice but were never willing to sacrifice anything themselves. And if you think about it, she is absolutely right. Here we are in the middle of the largest disaster in our nations history and what do the conservatives and George Bush propose? Cuts in spending! Now what spending do you think they have in mind? Military? Corporate welfare? Don't think so. We are talking foodstamps, Medicare, or whatever program might help the poorest in our country. And Bush has already said, no need to raise taxes. Yep, no need to ask the wealthy to sacrifice. The poor and middle class will suffer greatly but conservatives will not be asked to sacrifice anything. They refuse. The caller was absolutely right.

4. Now is not the time to point fingers |

Now is the time to pray. And give. Because charity does not begin in the halls of Congress. No, it begins at home. Because home is where the hearts is. And our hearts are full. We're Americans, and Americans have always been givers. That's why we give.
Hey, I can be a twit speech writer!

I think it was Steven Colbert explaining Bush's great speech writers tricks. We've got to A B because we are B A'ers.
We've got to eat zucchini because we are zuccini eaters.

7. Simply Stated: Arrogance And Ignorance |
|
Almost to a tee...most conservatives I know live in a very elite world...one they've grown up in and have never had to leave. Their attitudes are molded from being with others of a similar environment/mindset and the echo chamber just reverberates the popular talking points and memes as being "fact". It's a distorted world that gets more so as these people isolate and disriminate themselves from more and more of the rest of the world.
Their value of life is in dollars. Status is based on your material possession and net worth; comfortable isn't enough, the game is to have more than the other guy.
These people have developed a myopia toward the world...years of television and stereotypes have molded a view that Americans are superior to other cultures...and white xtian Americans are the symbol of this virtue.
Being part of this elite group means being "discriminated" by others who want what they have. Be it the federal governement who these people have always been force fed, takes too much in taxes...yet these people have little connection between how their tax dodges, breaks and cuts have an impact on the quality of their local schools or the condition of the roads or crumbling infrastructure. Outta sight outta mind.
Plus they feel discriminated by the poor...who are lazy, stupid, inept and otherwise morally inferior...but want what they have. These people have the irrational belief the rich look after each other and the poor and middle class are a lesser class to be exploited. It's a delusional world...and sadly one this regime has helped to embolden.

That's the face of the Republican Party too, our own country isn't worth $200 billion to them. Pathetic.

10. I was amazed and rather stunned to hear McCain speak on the news |
|
today. I think he made the statment yesterday. He said that there was 25 Billion, yes, billion with a B of pork in the new highway bill. Now, admitting that, on national TV, about a bill that they just passed seems to speak volumes about the legislative job they are doing in overseeing our budget in general. If they can earmark 25 Billion in pork days after passing this joke legislation, just how much is in there, or any other budget bill for that matter, that they haven't owned up to yet?
No wonder we are faced with such a bad forecast for our deficit and our economy. These are NOT conservatives, they just pretend to be them in Washington.
We need to make sure that McCains words are spread far and wide. Just how are they conservative with our tax dollars? blivet** said during his first convention nomination speech that it is OUR money, not the governments ... so time to ask them the really hard questions ... just how loud do this years budget bills OINK?
