Misfortune upon scanning through AM radio...

...I ran into Bill O'Reilly's radio program. Bill magnanimously agreed with Bush that the poverty in NO is a result of generations of racism, Jim Crow, and lack of opportunity.

The solution??? More self-reliance!!

That's right! If the Blacks had been more self-reliant, racism and Jim Crow wouldn't have affected them so much!!!

Never realized it was so simple!

5. O'Reilly ought to get a job at Coney Island..

..so he can huff gas fumes from a dirty rag while he runs the Tilt-o-whirl.

3. Here's what's funny -
The tack now is to say to the poor blacks - everywhere, really - "Stay in school, graduate, don't have babies before you're married, stay away from drugs."

Sounds reasonable until you come to terms with reality - that the schools in poor neighborhoods are not good, that medical care - like birth control and sex educations - are not readily available to the poor, that having babies very often is accidental, that there's no access to legal abortion, that drugs are everywhere in their neighborhoods and are the only jobs and hopes of moving up that some kids see.

But, the plaint, "Stay in school, etc.," is almost verbatim what the Black Panthers were preaching to their charges a generation ago.

My first criminal client was a Black Panther charged with murdering a cop. I got to know some of his fellows Panthers very well, and their hearts were all in the right places.

As I've said before, I thought I'd see it get better in my lifetime.

I haven't.

...been really interested in them. I know Fred Hampton really spoke to people, and was loved. They killed him early on.

14. They got them all
The government, via the FBI's COINTELPRO obscenity, managed to put the Panthers out of business. Only Bobby Rush seems to thrive, having transformed himself into a barbeque entrepreneur and a Congressman. I think Fred would have had a big, fine laugh at that.

They were a great bunch, but they scared everyone. In fact, they spoke truth that others weren't ready to hear, and that's what made them so threatening. They loved their people, they cared for the children, and they exhorted the young people.

Naturally, they had to die. Another of our country's enduring shames.

4. That's exactly what the RW asshole on Bill Maher was spouting
last night. That these people have been so overpriveledged by their government checks that they no longer understand how to take care of themselves. Willie Brown then pointed out that if a fraction of the corporate welfare and tax breaks for the rich had been ditributed instead of the "pittance", that thse people might have had access to eduaction and what not. These disgusting RW bastards are so shameless and opportunistic.

7. The first problem right wingers have:
is they believe ALL black people are on welfare. You can work and be poor. You can work HARD and be poor. You can work three jobs and be poor. I don't think this registers with people like O'Reilly.

Not everyone can start off working the fry-o-lator at McDonalds, work hard, and end up president of the company and I think they honestly believe that is commonplace.

on food stamps, too.

11. Right. O'Really is nothing but a high paid whore. He thinks that
since he knelt down and took it, that the whole world can do the same.

Hence, the sexual harassment that he did. Some lowly Associate Producer should accede to his instincts because she should whore herself like he does.

He has a very skewed view of the world.
